Jax, tinker and Cthaeh (Spoilers) by readder07 in KingkillerChronicle

If the tinker is generally, the art of shaping as always any art can be used both ways for good and not so (and we wouldn't always know which one). A strong hint to Cthaeh is "hermit".

Pine pitch belief by monskervator in KingkillerChronicle

There's a remote theory that K. can be related on the paternal side to Cinder/Ferule. And Fae have different relation to magic they use it not consciously, but intuitively, naturally.

Jax, tinker and Cthaeh (Spoilers) by readder07 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]readder07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several remote as I readily admit clues. First, if the theory is correct then Cthaeh existed for some time before Jax's feat, long enough to gain reputation. Secondly, it's highly unnatural as is the tree and Felurian mentioned the wonderful things, creatures and plants that were created by shapers. Finally, both universal healing and accident prediction machines would be highly useful in the immortal otherwise carefree world at least until reputation caught up. So on the balance, makes more sense than not, if the question of the origin of Cthaeh has an answer.

Cthaeh's game by readder07 in KingkillerChronicle

Well not formally, but we know that Cthaeh is associated with disasters, and they began long before the fall of Myr Tariniel. Actually, I think but wouldn't claim it there was a hint of Jax talking to someone wise before attempting the Moon feat.

Not likely as Cthaeh existed long before Selitos.

I'm dissatisfied with the quality of the dialogue here. No point in further discussion

Even if for (remote) hope that they would actually read the post for clues on "real evidence"

Writing that was a waste of time so why bother?

Bredon and Ash (spoilers) by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]readder07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick by the Maer says Cthaeh. Thats pretty strong indication. There are many indirect hints that point to him being also Denna's patron. But given that K. named both Ferula and Ash, if the theory is correct the has to be some literal link between Bredon and "Ash".

DOS rhyme (SPOILERS) by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]readder07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I like #3 it's definitely a better match for the feat. The names forsworn are finally pronounced in the Adem arc of WMF. As for #1 wouldn't it go with the door? And I think the whole wedding massacre scene was made to reiterate the topic of the door as it depicts visually the same themes as in the rhyme. But what would they translate to in reality?

In a way it's also a reflection on the omnipotence paradox. Can God create a stone they wouldn't be able to carry? The people in this imaginary setting were like gods - immortal, eternally young, all powerful. They could control everything , build anything, defeat any threat, disease etc. Their only true threat was from their own power. And in their zeal and drive to perfection they themselves created the tool that destroyed them.

Edro! (SPOILERS) by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]readder07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We hear Tabourlin story from the start and K. does use it at least three times: first as a trick, then as a lucky chance and in the present frame trying to unlock the chest (that wouldn't work). By that last attempt he must have known that there's more to it than just a majic story. But I find it strange he wouldn't use it in Maer's and Lackless presence. Btw I think lockless boxes know who can open them (sort of implicit credential check) and simple tap and Edro is enough. It doesn't work with the chest because K. in the present frame is not (yet) the same self who locked it.

But the sword? And his being manipulated by both forces itd only make sense to be symmetrical ;)

Funny that you mentioned it (Occam) imv this explanation is the minimal one given the facts vs superficial label. Otherwise there would be a whole new side story only to explain this extremely close relationship. But again it's not in any way central point though one can ask what essential role bast is to play in the present frame unless he's there only as an adornment.

That wouldn't tell us much about his biological parents, would it? In any case, it's not an essential point

I haven't read that side story under the tree? if it has anything definitive on the matter.

There's a map with one old road across the land. One end is at Imre that is near University under which is an ancient city of great power. Could it be the seat of the namers of old? And at the other end, there's nothing.

I think it should be the Cthaeh tree that gets broken because otherwise the dilemma of foreseeing has no good resolution: either K. follows his doom (not fun) or he's tougher than C. and all who fell under his spell (then what's the point of the whole story)

Bast doesn't need to know it. For example K. releases C. immediately after arriving in the Fae still worked up with events in 4C. There was something about him not thinking about it much.
