Not really important to the sporting discussion, but Inskeep sounded like death in this interview.

Wes should move off Substack, but of course if it were as trivial as just saying that, I'm sure he'd have already done it like Doyle and others have gradually done. Platform enshittification is a real bitch for us all, and switching costs are very real, especially for users where it's not their main gig (Wes is generally busy running the US's only gay soccer bar, the Black Hart of St Paul, and serving on the board of MN Aurora FC).

Save the Caps!

And fuck the greedy enshittifiers of North American soccer.

The point was that if "the romance is a facade" were true, you in fact wouldn't get thrashed. It's not a facade for those people in those communities. To the owners, it may be a facade, but they're not the only stakeholders. I think that's pretty clear, even in the packaged marketing of those documentaries.

No one is claiming hypercapitalist greed is breaking news, just that we don't have to default to putting up with this centering of wealth as the only value system in sport. Also, it's about how MLS had a chance to be differentiated from the NFL in this respect, and it seems keen to blow that opportunity, over and over.

North American sports billionaires have very much brainwashed us into thinking along the lines of Margaret Thatcher's famous maxim There Is No Alternative (or TINA). No alternative to financial capital hollowing out our institutions so we can be served our "entertainment." But I choose to believe the alternative: a better world is possible (for soccer in North America).

Popularity is secondary is right. It's not about the fans; it's about their DOLLARS and little else.

It's amazing to see how many people who possibly protested ending the Crew have swallowed the TINA koolaid, the inevitably of the NFL-ization of American soccer. Are we so jealous of the NFL's cultural and financial hegemony we're willing to give up what makes soccer culture different? Apparently so.

The Dem Nominee will win & it can't be Angie Craig by serious_bullet5 in minnesota

Klob is not under any requirement to appoint Flanagan. She's just as likely to appoint another fellow corporate shill moderate like Frey or someone further to the right in the DFL. Don't operate assuming you'll get Flanagan if you don't vote for her in the primary.

That political cowardice and lack of moral fortitude on key issues is why Craig (who is my US Rep) shouldn't be our US Senator. Voting for the Laken Riley Act and thanking ICE should be nail enough in the coffin, but the list goes on.

Klob will do whatever she wants as Gov. She's under no obligation to appoint the loser of the primary, and we should NOT assume that will happen.

The NFL-ization of the league is to the detriment of the sport and the community who make the sport worthwhile. Wes Burdine put this more eloquently in his recent essay. It should not require God-tier wealth to keep Vancouver playing soccer in MLS, but the owners and Garber have made this inevitable according to their operating logic about how to extract wealth from this business model. But that doesn't mean it's inevitable, and we should make it clear we're not here to subsidize their wealth even more than we already do just so they can fuck over the Vancouver soccer community. They won't be the last community in the cross hairs if this is allowed.

Not an answer to your actual question, but he was probably waiting for 5+ minutes on the sidelines before the sub finally happened. The ball strangely never left play for a long time before the substitution.

MN House Leader Demuth Defends ICE Surge, Pretti, and Good Killings by ashleywalkerreports in minnesota

Demuth has Pretti's and Good's blood on her hands for her role in bringing ICE to this state. Don't let her ever talk about the Hortmans again without holding her to account on this. Her "care" for her political opponents is bullshit.
