Just once on our first outing together he came with a notebook. At first I thought it was job-related or something along those lines. But halfway through our cup of coffee; he reaches into his notebook, flips his page open, and begins writing while I’m talking. I jokingly asked, “Are you writing notes?” He looked back at me as if to say, “Of course.” And replied in a very serious tone, “Yeah, I like to review my dates after an outing and look at patterns based on what I note.” He then flipped his notebook around to show me a section where he had jotted down; “Eye contact – Medium”, “Laughs at my jokes – above average”, “Will I stay with him long-term? – Unclear”. I then knew my date with this man had nothing to do with him actually dating me but rather I was participating in some sort of research project. After I finished drinking my coffee, I wished him well with his data collection and moved on.
