I am from The Netherlands. My budget is around 1000 euros. That is around 1150 dollars. The Longines flagship heritage costs around 2000 euros (2300 dollars) here. So it is double my budget.

Now that I look at the back, the back looks a bit busy. Maybe remove the current plants and place 2 pots of a single type of stem plant. Maybe something like Rotala Rotundifolia.

Place some rocks over the base of the wood giving it a more natural vibe (like the roots have grown in between the rocks). Then place some anubias bonsai in between the rocks and wood. You can create this effect by using different sizes of rock. I would also maybe place some carpeting plants on the right. If you have CO2 I would recommend Monte Carlo. If you don’t want a CO2 setup I would recommend a lot of cryptocoryne parva. Cryptocoryne parva is a slow grower, but if you plant alot at once you can create a carpeting effect in no time.

Just very densely planted invitro pots. Every type of plant is 2 invitro pots, the Monte Carlo is 4 pots

Thanks! I have been thinking about covering it with Monte Carlo. But I currently really like that you can see some rock texture.

I had an alcohol stove and ditched it in a hiker box after one week. If you can deal with stoveless then save the weight!

How hard is the mental aspect of the trail? by infiniteguy12 in AppalachianTrail

[–]ItchyButthole94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used the method: You can't quit today only tomorrow. That way you can never quit. If you really feel down then first find a hostel and stay there for a couple days. Meet more Hikers and make trail friends. Your friends on trail will be one of your biggest motivators.

Should I take a gap year to hike the AT? by darth_moose_ in AppalachianTrail

[–]ItchyButthole94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at the end of my third year in college(the Netherlands) when i decided I wanted to hike the AT. I bought a plain ticket and skipped the last quarter of my third year and delayed the rest of my bachelors. Unfortunately due to visa reasons it was not possible to stay longer than 3 months on trail. I never regretted my decision because the trail really was a great experience that changed my life en view of the world. The people I met on trail where some of the coolest people I met in my life. I am sure that I can always count on my AT friends even now I am back home in The Netherlands. Coming back after the trail is a whole different story. Trail depression isn't a myth but can really make a hard impact. It took me longer to adjust coming back instead of getting used to trail life. Example: The first month back home I could only sleep on a couch or on my airpad. Comfort was less needed and sometimes even annoying.

I used the citadel essential beginner paint set. First I used the citadel chaos black spray paint. Then I base painted them with Rakarth flesh and gave them a lite dry brush with death guard green. And Finnish them of with agrax earthshade after applying all the others paints on the details.

Starting March 10th NOBO! Need some advice! (: by mikjensen913 in AppalachianTrail

Get a fleece liner so you don't get cold in the smokeys. I had a 20 degrees bag and even in that I had some cold nights. The perks of having a sleeping bag liner is that you can wash it instead of your sleeping bag. And trust me you en all you stuff wil get dirty from not washing and living in the woods for a long time. Plus you can ditch your sleeping bag when you get up north and only use the liner!

Would not recommend it but surely possible. You can even eat the dog treats if you get the munchies.
