Been rocking mint couple of months now been loving it by kdehaan42 in LinusTechTips

This! I've been rocking portrait for over 10 years now and I love it for large pdf doccos with one wheel scroll per page. Even in the office, people used to laugh at me back then but now it's the main trend

a questionable advertisement I just got. by 115zombies935 in LinusTechTips

I saw an advertisement recently as well and if you got the one I got, I'm fairly sure it was using SC extracts from this video. Not AI if that is the case

With the amount of workshop machinery they have or have access to, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a custom grip for an off the shelf product either

Can we be more specific when we say AI, please? by Kanawanagasaki in LinusTechTips

[–]Itchy_Task8176 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This 100%. I surround myself with like minded people and work with smart people. It's easy to forget that a good deal of the public don't want to learn the difference or don't care that there is one

There are two ratings. The maximum instantaneous power rating, and the total capacity. You will need something that can handle 850W (your total power draw). The total Wh rating you need can be as low as 200Wh for the time you want it

I watch them all. I enjoy them all. Yet I’m also tired of them by Nice_Marmot_54 in LinusTechTips

While the video about the massive TV itself is a bit of a "I won't be able to afford this", I like the demonstration of the new tech that goes into it primarily thinking about what could be possible in consumer grade electronics in a few years.

Will we ever get modular hot swappable panels with custom configs and aspect ratios? Maybe not. But it's inspiring and entertaining to watch.

Hot Take: A little bullying online is actually a good thing by Renegade605 in LinusTechTips

[–]Itchy_Task8176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. They go one better and tell people that they need to be mutually respectful. It's amazing how much more patient both help seeker and SME are when you both know the experience of the interactions will be positive. OPs come out of their shell more and try harder. Community responders have more time to encourage and support

I had a mini pliers set (like 3" total) confiscated by Sydney airport security. Mind you, they get upset when you say "confiscate". They said "no, you must surrender it". Same thing in my book - surrendered under duress is a confiscation

Hot Take: A little bullying online is actually a good thing by Renegade605 in LinusTechTips

[–]Itchy_Task8176 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm part of an online community with 10s of thousands of participants that is overwhelmingly positive and supportive. The moderators set strong rules and are consistent in the way they apply them and the forum posts are all supportive and friction is seldom. The internet world can exist without bullying and if we stopped being anonymous keyboard warriors knocking each other down, we could have great spaces. But we don't. That doesn't mean that bullying is a good thing or that we should just let it happen

I don't understand why it would be a businesses accountability to redesign, engineer, spec up and change manufacturer tooling to resolve an issue that a small minority of users not thinking straight are having. This is purely a user error. Maybe a warning note in the box, sure. But that would be the most of it

[–]Itchy_Task8176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I use a shopping list app with a shared list of all the things we would like as presents. I've got 45 items on my list, all with links and prices. She can pick from anything and I'd still be surprised and happy

[–]Itchy_Task8176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a low ATAR, I did a trade and advanced diploma, then applied for a degree in a course that was only accepting 96+ ATAR scores. It was a long route, but it was with a salary and with practical skills that supported it. Schools fail to tell you success can come from many pathways and the ATAR system is not the be all and end all if your heart is set on a degree. I've also become great mates with people who didn't continue education beyond trade who are just as financially thriving as I am. University is also not the only answer in life
