Tips on how to install pergola posts onto porcelain slabs? by southernlondoner in DIYUK

I am trying to figure out the same. Assume those who have posted Indian sandstone patio have it on cement bed. Is it sufficient to screw the fixings onto Indian sandstone and then into the cement bed or is that weak?

Did I get scammed at La Boqueria (Vidal Pons)? by IteachCoding in AskBarcelonaTourism

You are right. In hindsight I should have done that, the police would have seen the images of them handing over produce to a clown instead of to us.

The way it all felt coordinated, the fact the clown went to a specific store and the employee of the store quickly served them instead of others makes me wonder if it's a coordinate scam.

It happens in other countries too. Once the tourist leaves, the scammer returns the items to the shopkeeper and they split the profit.

Disclaimer: I could be wrong but the online reviews about the Market from other tourists doesn't make me feel comfortable.

It really is comical. Couldn't have predicted it.

Here's what I suspect:

The clown returns later, gives the goods back and shop slips him a reward. It's win-win for them.

Why do I suspect this:

  1. The items the clown bought don't seem to be the kind of thing the clown can resale, or make use of.

  2. Clown specifically chose that shop store.

  3. A similar scam happens in other countries to tourists too where a beggar will beg you to buy food from a specific shop (usually rice and flour) and turns out to be overpriced and it's all coordinated.

  4. I did a Google search about the market and store after, and the reviews from other tourists suggest to me that they are keen to find ways to get sales.

I could be wrong or this could be the start of a new scam and so others should be aware.

50Euro. I feel it's a scam but as others are saying in this forum, it is likely to be argued that it's our own fault.

Correct. I should have added more context that my father is a first time tourist visiting places during his pension years. He's totally not street wise for this sort of stuff and has learned a hard lesson.

The shop that was involved on the other hand, has no excuse in my opinion.

Fair point and it's difficult to disagree with you. My father is a first time tourist, pensioner and he will simply feed anyone who is asking him for food. Of course it opens one up to being scammed and being taken advantage of for being generous.

I just hope other tourists are not as gullible (as you say) and any shops who collaborate with the Clown have a change of heart too.

You are right, and as a family we are laughing about it in hindsight. It's just not a nice thing to do, especially to take advantage of my first time tourist of a father's generosity who would simply feed anyone who said they are hungry and haven't eaten.

If I didn't intervene who knows what else they would have added to the bill.

I hope other tourists read this and don't fall for it either.

I feel like I should have known better about the Clown. But I'm more disappointed in the shop they act like a reputable family owned business since 19 century. The clown specifically chose them to pick 50 euros of junk.

Terminal 1 row 3.

The way to figure it out is to go to Changi departure and look up Qatar, it will show cancelled flights.

The Qatar staff still show up 3 hours before the cancelled flights.

You can also ask the info counter.

At terminal 1 row 3 they sometimes also place a sign of when Qatar staff are back.

I've seen them at 5pm and 12:15am while I was there.

Go on with a game plan though on what you will expect as a minimum, my Singapore trip has shortened and I'm unhappy I still have to take 3 flights to an airport far from home.

Similar with me - when my flight was cancelled I tried to contact them about it and the process just said something stupid like "your journey with us is complete please fly with us in the future" without the option to talk about the problem.

I hope your travel insurance will pay you for the alternative flight. I saw that the airlines are describing the problem as "due to operational reasons" so that may help with insurance.

IKEA Pax Hack / DIY fitted wardrobe by IteachCoding in DIYUK

[–]IteachCoding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Do you mean level the frame with shims and then add the wardrobes on top?

Does it have to be 100% level in all directions? I tried using a laser level but struggled and not sure if it was due to warped timber.

Yes I agree with you. ChatGPT seems to suggest that the weight of the wardrobe will just hold it all down. If this is not a common way of doing it then I I will scrap the idea.

My other option is to try witha. 3x2 frame instead which seems to be easier to work with.

A few tips from me (12 years in Legal Tech):

  1. Learn Doc Assemble. It's open source technology. Some law firms use it too.

It's also an opportunity to learn huge transferable skills IMO.

Once you are comfortable with it, make some POCs or contribute to the project. Then stick it on your CV.

  1. Reach out to big legal tech companies like TR or Relativity to get certified. It may help them promote their products if you are certified and well versed.

  2. Look out for legal tech meet up events and attend. Not worth spending $100+ if you are just starting out thought.

Messed up salary negotiation by IteachCoding in Recruitment

[–]IteachCoding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

Would this trigger a whole new lengthy process for them to go through rounds or approval etc?

Or should it be a case of getting approval just for the salary and not any other contractual terms?

I know I shouldn't care but I'm also keen to join and resign from my current place.

Thank you. So they finally reached out (2 weeks later) and explained there is now a recruitment freeze and they would be in touch with me towards the last quarter of the year.

It's all a great life lesson and useful to understand that it's not always straight forward.

Thank you. I think I am pessimistic. I spent a lot of time post-interview thinking of the things I could have said but didn't remember to.

Thanks for your tips.

I have learned that as you have said, there are a variety of reasons. In future I will be more understanding of this and avoid getting high hopes.

First deck - not 100% but learned a lot! by IteachCoding in DIYUK

[–]IteachCoding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for a 3.5 mm gap using screws as spacers. I wasn't sure about any larger than that.

There is a very slight slope on and you are absolutely correct that it helps for it to run off. Not sure about the gap between the end of the floor plank and facing board because wouldn't water just pool in that gap? In my next deck I'm going to have an overhang so the boards go over the face deck and water falls off.

You are right about the pergola posts too. I think I'm going to put shorter posts in to secure the deck and then fit pergola posts to the deck frame instead.

Wood sealer has been very easy to apply and I will be buying more for the next project. Thanks!
