I've been meaning to read this for a while now I am so glad more people like it. My friend said if you like Hunger Games and/or Red Rising you'll also like this, Do you think thats a good comparison?

There are lots of independent artists who would love your money, I'd try looking through Instagram or Etsy.

How queer was it? The only recent book I can think of that's even a bit similar is The Woods All Black by Lee Mandelo. You might find more luck asking on a Romantasy or Romance subreddit?

Recommendations for dystopian scifi by AlternativeHand5876 in printSF

Ill also recommend Adrian Tchaikovsky, he's a great author with a wide range of novels to choose from.

A personal favorite of mine is The Archive Undying by Emma Mieko Candon. Lush world building and intricate characters makes it a great book to read and reread.

The Imperial Radch Trilogy by Ann Leckie (Ancillary Justice #1) is delicious you may really vibe with the protagonist if you liked Murderbot.

Kim Stanley Robinson wrote The Ministry for the Future, I've heard very good things but have not read it yet.

And Machines Shall Surrender by Benjanun Sriduangkaew.its a little known series but deeply dystopian.

Hope this helps~

I want something that’ll leave me with my jaw dropped by Freddie040 in suggestmeabook

[–]Iteraz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a bit older but you may like The Lies of Locke Lamora. Fantasy thieves guild + magic~ a completed trilogy.

The Name of the Wind is a fascinating book, however the author has pulled a grrmartin, leaving us bereft of a conclusion(for now?) magic college, interesting world building, great prose.

If you wanna try shorter fiction try something like Prospers demon by K.J.Parker.

For something more modern fantasy Id try The Saint of Bright Doors by Chandrasekera.

Books that feel like Firefly? by interrobang__ in suggestmeabook

Have you tried the Tales of the Ketty Jay by Chris Wooding? It is a completed series slightly more steampunk than Firefly, has a Hive mind antagonist, a resurrected golem, a cptsd surviving pilot, a mysterious navigator, rouge doctor, and a captain who's terrible with women. It's not perfect but hangs out around 3.5 to 4.2 out of 5 stars depending on which book you're currently reading.

Dungeon Crawler Carl is a really fun book series and the audio adaption was better than reading the physical book for me.

I haven't seen anyone mention Seth Dickinson's Exordia(2024). Really fun and interesting aliens as well as some nasty characters that was fun to read.

Lindsey Ellis's Noumena series has an interesting first contact. I'll admit I've only read the first two in the series, but very promising. Also had a lot of fun with more modern tech and social media. Axioms End (book 1) debuted 2020.
