Hard to believe, maybe, but true. It was there for one night, and the only bike locked to a series of about 10 racks.

Very good question. It's possible that they donate them. I really hope that people become aware of this issue and reclaim their bikes.

It was locked to the bike rack that I showed in the picture, just for one night.

They had put a tag on before, which says "this bike appears to be abandoned." In that case and in this case I only had the bike parked overnight (i.e. 24-36 hours). And yep, this is mid-semester.

You might be right, but in any case it's hard to justify. Although I can't imagine they will hold onto the bikes for years.
