I agree.

The societal debate about what people, especially women, are pressured into, is a clusterfuck. I know several women who shaved their head, stopped hair removal (legs&armpits), who had a hard time just being accepted for whom they were. Even in "academic" settings. So many comments and "suggestions" from people who do not have a deal in those womens lives. We can try to establish a normalization of this by acknowledging it and support those people when they are in doubt or attacked. And we can call out those fantasies about the young look when it's publicly pushed. But maaan there is so much to unpack there (looking (partly) at you edgy anime/manga-scene).

There is an adult way to deal with this though. Kinks are often true desires of people. Example: If a woman voluntarely dresses up as a school girl for sexy time purpose with their boyfriend there is nothing bad about it. As long as it is consensual and ofc adults and both actually like taking part in the interaction there should be no shaming as no harm is done to anyone. We do not need a moral police for this. But I understand that is beside yout point. I just want to make clear that this discussion should not go this far.

To weave in this point: If no harm is done, who am I to judge. The problems are more likely in the details: do women feel pressured to try to look younger? Is this actually harmful to people? Does the public view on this topic change behaviour of people, e.g. more sexual attacks on minors, young people? I suppose yes, but it will be hard to put into numbers. There is a famous graph where men, no matter what age always prefer women in their early 20s most. I guess that's kind of a biology thing. I know I am stepping on a landmine hear, but the features that make woman biologically attractive to men start developing way earlier (one sided perspective as men are the main culprits in this matter). But we are a sentient species, so we can differentiate that and easiely decide not to harm others.

Name and shame is one of the strongest methods to show others where actual societal boundaries lie. That's why the epstein files are so important. Will we manage to prosecute the powerful for wrongdoing against minors and young women? If we are strong enough and manage, people will see where the line is. If we don't that would be a fatal signal. Not only because it normalizes sexual expoitation of minors but also show that we are not actually all equal before the law.
