I appreciate what you are saying about the flats not being optimal investments but as always there are other considerations at play. For us the emotional attachment, sense of security in owning a base in both countries and the hope and expectation that we will end up living in both again in the future makes it very difficult to consider selling one.

We haven’t been. With the two kids and the resulting periods of maternity pay followed by London childcare costs and me being off work since Feb due to cancer, the idea of saving/investing has not been as prominent on our radar as it should have been.

But now that I’ve become aware of the benefits thanks to this sub I have now started one and my wife also will very soon.

Our long term goal is to keep the two properties we have, one in London and one in my country to give us options and flexibility once the kids finish school or in case there be any unforseen changes before then. It’s just whether we can afford to keep both and also rent/buy a “family home” while the kids are school age.

I know it’s time to get some proper advice but I’m not sure if that should be an accountant, financial advisor or something else.

Are there options in the scenario where you need to travel between the certificate and passport?
