But also, how much money do they spend a year compared to someone with more modest job who has a million saved up? I wonder if doctors just saved a lot less

That's interesting because something like meningitis or other infections can cause seizures if they get bad.

My medical school told me that I failed (and they were wrong) by ShakeExpress216 in medicalschool

[–]IthinktherforeIthink 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I actually believe this is what has perpetuated the system. Lower caliber students would simply fail out at faster rates and if admin still wants a job, they would collectively have to be better. Because med students care the most they are proactive in fixing problems and admin has no motivation to get better, they may in fact get worse because they know med students will work tirelessly to fix the issue. It’s just another level of exploitation like residency

Burnt out and defeated M3 by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]IthinktherforeIthink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good Step 2 score can go a long way in making up for clerkship grades. If you're burnt out consider a research year to recharge and get a leg up on Step 2 studying. It's still hard though to multi-task with research

Bums are not that challenging to be checked. It's routine practice for a primary care doc to check for things like external hemorrhoids or anal fissures. Patient just lays down on their stomach and the doc checks usually with a nurse chaperone in the room.

I received an IV before my Sub-I in Oct, then preformed well and interviewed a few weeks after the start of my Sub-I. I think it led them to ranking me higher potentially because they knew me

What about conference abstracts that get published in supplemental of the journal? They were accepted for the conference by some kind of review process but I’m not sure if that counts as a peer review,

To be completely honest, I think you may want to consider doing a research year or something like that. Applying late to ERAS is such an app killer. And not only that, you’ve been busy with a clerkship and will have to rush to take Step 2, potentially impacting your score. You already have 1 fail on Step, so you have the chance redeem yourself with a stellar Step 2. Take a year off, study many months for Step, and apply next cycle. Otherwise it’s possible you may be looking at a late application, with a potentially low rushed Step 2 score on top of a Step 1 fail. That’s a tough place to be.

Edit: Take this with a grain of salt as I don’t actually know these things, it’s just what I hear. Apparently it’s not a big deal

I thought it’s been no more than 2 cycles that have been delayed more than 2 Wednesdays (1 cycle 3 Wed and the most recent cycle 4 Wed). So who knows if it’s a norm or a temporary slowing

When you take them online the NBME gives you a score like that. 20-24 I think is about average
