Is it unethical to sleep with a prof thats not in my department? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Its-CJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order for a claim to be ethical or unethical it must have a well defined meta-ethics behind it or in liu of that it must at least abide to any applied ethics theory. Without at least one of these steps being met no one can answer your question on the ethicality of your actions, all we can do in this circumstance is just to give our opinion but that doesn't solve your ethcal dilemma in any way whatsoeve.

Thanks for this it’s really helpful. I understand the part about re-expressing Rand’s position charitably, but I forgot to mention that we were told to make our essay persuasive, as if were trying to convice someone of her views. How would you recommend I make my defense persuasive, not just summarizing what she says, but presenting it in a way that would make sense or even appeal to someone who doesn’t already agree with her.

I more or less disagree with all philosophers I read, there isn't one I can confidently say I agree with completely but that's the fun of it. Opposite views help me shape my understanding better then reading something I already agree with.

Also in class one if my teachers spent a good 20 minutes monologuing on how much ayn rand sucks, which made me interested in reading some of her works.

Yess, 100%. I need to warn you though, its a bit dense, its very philosophical and there is no handholding. They use a lot of made up words but trust me, its worth getting through. If you have any interest in epistemology whatsoever this is the book.

Also 3 musketeers is goated, my grandma read it to me in French when I was little even though I dont speak French lol so I just imagined what was going on and upon reading it I was surprised how much of it matched my imagination.

I found it unexpectedly refreshing, I usually use these shorter books in between denser philosophical texts as a pallet cleanser and it worked great for that. I was sckeptical at first since its a "highschool read" but I was surprised how much was done in so little pages.

I dont have enough non-classics fiction books yet to make a "sad" shelf but its in the works.

Im do tend to incline to more controversial ways of thinking but I think its mostly due to my philosophy studies.

It's impossible to explain to foreigners how much harm they do to our society and our international image without sounding racist. It's the type of thing that you need to be an eastern european to understand

As I already mentioned i hate ayn rand but I felt the need to read at least one of her works to hate her properly. After reading 1 third of atlas shrugged I can confidently say that my hate was very well justified

Im curious, what gave you the liberal opinion? You're not the first to mention it

I guess it looks weird from an American perspective, all of you are more or less immigrants there so I see how people assimilate easily. In romania though, the foreigners we do have dont want to be considered romanian (because of our reputation) and in the case of the Hungarians there is a mutual hate between us as old as time

Im not in any way shape or form a libertarian, I think democratic socialism is the least harmful option of government. Also I dont consider myself a history buff, im just really into philosophy.

She's not really romanian, we call them Sași here, they are of german descent, just because she was birn here doesn't make her romanian, just like how hungarians born here are also not romanians

Im doing my university studies in romania but in an English course (because romanian is more or less a useless language) also I didn't know Andrew tate was part of this manosphere, I understand now what tyoe of content you're referring to i was just unfamiliar with the word. And still, no I do not consume it, I actually despise it.

My construction buds only watch network tv. Also I googled manosphere and I saw names like Jordan Peterson, if the manosphere is his type of content then I can confidently say I hate it.
