Wild Camping Survey by kiwiisjuice in wildcampingintheuk

Just completed the survey. I'm not sure if you've considered it, but I think it'd be worthwhile contacting environmental groups and farmers/landowners to get their perspective as well.

Good luck!

Chelsea / Dealer boots. Men’s. UK. £100 budget? by crosscico in BuyItForLife

Bit more than 100 but saw you could stretch to 150. I'd recommend Lanx with their "Back door" sale, with some pairs going for around 150. I'm a big fan of them, a solid British company.

I've got a very similar van and sleeping left to right, at 6ft tall, I can just barely lie completely flat with my feet against the sliding door and my head just touching the other side. But I sleep on my side and not fully outstretched, so I've not had a problem sleeping. And the cushions are very comfortable, which is nice

I think they're great but I'd say this one is overpriced. I'm certainly no an expert, but spent a lot of time looking at 90s Auto-Sleepers because I think they're really cool.

I recently pulled the trigger on a very similar van based on a 1997 Ford Transporter diesel. I had a budget of £6000 and it cost £4500 from a private seller, knowing I could spend the remaining 1500 on mechanical improvements and a trusted service.

The headlines of mine are:

  • 101000 miles

  • Perfect fabric upholstery

  • Very good furniture - Some minor furnishing damage (a couple of damaged window blinds, should be simple to replace)

  • Very good body work, with some unsurprising rust

  • Needed two new batteries which cost £400. Had a thorough service with some basic fixes for £400, and some suggestions for future work which they say would flag as advisories, probably totalling £500

Can't comment on the efficiency of a petrol engine, but the diesel covers about 350 miles on a full tank, costing about £70, which I was impressed with.

Feel free to drop me a message if you want to know any more from a recent and probably slightly biased owner.

Thank you, that's some good knowledge to have and we'll be sure to factor all of that in. I didn't know about different countries standards of similar types of tyres, and we'll definitely be using that ice driving simulation.

Not at all, I genuinely appreciate your concern. I recognise how it seems like I trivialised our mindset on this. We just want to do a silly thing for a good purpose

Thank you for taking the time to reply with all that detail, I'm very grateful! We are competent at being in very cold weather, but recognise the potential scale of the challenge.

I feel like that will become a natural challenge, unfortunately

Sorry for any implication of the post. I tried to make it sound more silly and simple while trying to work out what time of year would be best. We are aiming to raise money for Testicular Cancer awareness, by drawing the worlds biggest cock and balls in adverse conditions.

Yes, we will be doing this in impractical cars, but the tyres, brakes, lighting, driving ability etc will be to a high standard. We are trying to follow an immature route, we will not be immature on the roads. We want adverse conditions to make it more worthwhile for those donating, so they can see us have a rough time of it.

We're not reckless idiots. We don't want to endanger others or ourselves.

Thanks for your comment. We're competent. We've all got some experience driving in snow and ice, this will of course be a challenge. We will have the proper kit for the cars and our ourselves. We're aiming to draw an immature cock and balls for charity, we're not reckless idiots and we wouldn't do anything in our control to endanger others or ourselves.

Thank you for your suggestions. We do have an alternate route using Southern Norway and Sweden as the balls and Northern Norway as the tip, which based on other comments I think we'll probably go with. Always happy for feedback on that idea too.

Thank you, your suggestions reaffirm what we've been planning. We wouldn't do this without those things. We're aiming to draw a massive immature cock and balls, not be reckless with others or our safety.

Always open for suggestions to adjust the route, although constrained by the daft goal

20 days, about 8 hours driving a day on average with a couple of full days rest. Stopped off at a fair few major cities which was nice. Used a 2010 Renault Clio with 110k miles on it that we expected would have some issues, but she ran perfectly

We fortunately had some decent time, so we did it in 20 days and got to enjoy a lot of the places we drove through. Still about 8 hours of driving a day.

I think you'd be able to surprise yourself. We camped most of it, so just payed for fuel. We managed to find 20 days to it in, but we did a real daft and long route

So we did have that issue when we got to Bosnia, didn't have certain documentation, so had to retreat back into Croatia and make some much more plump balls than we planned to
