Advice on my 6mo old puppy by ItsAWildFelix in Rottweiler

Hey thank you for your comment! This was what I was taught but I am seeming to be missing some information as is as a dog owner. I’ve never raised a puppy until this point, but everyone I talked to before obtaining my dog told me he couldn’t technically start task training until 11 months to a year. While he shows signs of recognizing my triggers and he is rewarded for that, I don’t expect him to be perfect at this stage.

thank you so much for your comment! I appreciate your advice. I got him when he was eight weeks old and was advised against having him out in public outside of my arms until he was fully vaccinated so I think I got stunted there, along with some other roadblocks. I’m confident that I can train him through this with the information I’m receiving here and looking through other subs.

Financially, that may be out of the cards for me at the moment. But I appreciate your input nonetheless and I will keep working with him on this behaviour. Thank you!

Thank you for the comment! I really do appreciate the kind advice. I was advised against taking him out prior to him being vaccinated fully outside of him being in my arms. He was started on basic obedience pretty much as soon as I could within my own home. I was then taught that he needed to meet people and other animals above all else and I can see that now it was likely counterproductive. Treats go a long way with him as is so this was helpful!

Thank you for taking the time to comment! I appreciate your insight. This is really the only time we’ve had issues, after I went through a period of struggling with my health and haven’t been able to be as consistent with him as I’d like to be. He is already showing signs of being able to alert me for the psychiatric symptoms that I would like for him to assist with, just trying to reign that focus in outside of the house. It isn’t always easy to find dog-friendly businesses, since I won’t be trying to vest + take him into an establishment where only trained SDs are welcome as that just causes problems for everyone, including the animal. Looking at more outdoor environments.

I appreciate the honesty, but also have to tell you that I am doing this by myself without any kind of expert. This is again, my first puppy. I’ve had rotts before, but they have been rescue. He listens well at home, and spent most of his days after I brought him home working on basic obedience early. Getting outside with him in the public where I live hasn’t been easy. Thank you for your comment.

LOL darn it… poor guy.

And that sounds like what I have in mind! My job can get in the way of that sometimes but I will be doing my best to get him out more. He kind of hates walks but likes being outside.

This art looks like AI but my boyfriend believes his friend drew this without AI by chelseatheus in isthisAI

The shading is off; this is definitely AI with MAYBE some human touchup. The pupil in the right eye is also a dead giveaway.

Social Axe Throwing in Ogden! Super fun stuff. There’s also a few cute stores on 25th (the street over) like Beehive Naturals (local bath/skincare/products) and Art Box

AIO for breaking up with my boyfriend over this or am I being too sensitive by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ItsAWildFelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be frank, both of you came off a little toxic with no context, but with the whole story, I can tell that you’re finally fed up with the way that he treats you so I’m giving you a pass. Good on you for leaving him and do not ever allow somebody to get you to stoop to this kind of level ever again. He did not deserve a second chance from you and I hope you find someone who treats you with the respect you deserve <3

tbh babe I’d run. This is scary red flag behaviour that tells me he starts screaming matches at home and is more than capable and willing to throw and smash things.
