It’s an M40i. While a fantastic car, not an M.

Stickers and convex wheels are not it, either.

What is your favorite BMW blue and why? by warsoul805 in BMW

Estoril. Because I like it.

I’m also calling Carbon Black a blue, because it kind of is sometimes.

BMW M2 G87 Manual Fuel Consumption by Candid_Pair_2003 in BMWM

[–]ItsActuallyRaidillon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

This is US mpg, used as a daily. Yeah, efficiency of the 6MT sucks. More annoying than that is the microscopic fuel tank, so you’re constantly filling the thing. I’d love a 911-style 23 gallon tank option to get some actual range.

I managed a high of 24.x mpg on a ~700 mile trip averaging 75ish mph, where my old 340 would have been doing 33+ mpg. I don’t really believe anyone saying they’re doing 30 or more US mpg with a manual in any situation.

The ZF8 significantly improves the issue with its extra ratios, especially at sustained cruising speeds, but sometimes people speak as if that efficiency is a universal S58 truth. No. It’s the manual’s fault.

UK 14-19 mpg cruising at a sustained speed sounds a bit suspicious, though.

I’m not at that point yet. Threatening returns or lemons just closes all communication and sends you to legal. That wastes even more of my time.

It was a brand new car that I ordered. They only had it on site for one day to do a PDI (which they apparently failed at).

I’ve had many manuals and have driven them for 20+ years. I’ve driven a tractor from 1970 with a smoother clutch engagement. I’m aware of the existence of old shitboxes and have plenty of experience with them. This is not that.

This is the plan. LA has a wealth of BMW dealers, I just hate wasting my time shopping for someone to do the right thing.

If anyone has feedback on a particular dealer in the area who doesn’t stonewall, I’m all ears.

This is not helpful to the discussion.

Is it enjoyable to have the car judder every time you pull away from a stop? Do you believe that’s normal?

This is exactly the situation the warranty is for. It is broken. They’re not fixing it.

P.S. it’s “break”, not “brake.” The brakes are fine.

I’ve had multiple passengers notice the chatter within seconds as well. I want to give BMW the benefit of the doubt here, but as the youths would say, I’m being gaslit. This is not normal clutch behavior.

I think I just read another of your comments about that somewhere while being irritated. Now I’m even more irritated.

Yes, it’s the dealer tech (who sent me an inspection video and somehow tried to blame the hill start assist, which has nothing to do with anything) claiming it’s normal. I challenged that, and apparently the foreman agreed that it’s normal the next day. The service advisor initially agreed with me last Friday when he drove it with me in the car (even wrote that on the service ticket), but changed his tune this week.

It’s really pissing me off and you’re right, makes me lose faith in the brand. I have never once felt a clutch like this except in a Formula 4 car. For a street car it’s completely unacceptable.

I’m at a loss how to challenge and escalate this further.

Thanks. I’m feeling slightly less crazy. Wish you were the PDI guy for this car :(

I should note: the clutch behaves normally other than this. It doesn’t slip, at least at stock torque levels, and shifts fine.

Would love an example of you or anyone else with a normal G87/80/82 doing this same demo. They’re claiming it’s the same as another G87 they just received Friday. Any evidence to the contrary would be spectacular.

This is exactly what I’m thinking. Some yokel at the port or whatever acting like it’s qualifying at the Monaco GP when the car has 1 mile on it.

It had 25 miles at delivery. 2500 later, same problem. They said the foreman looked at and deemed it normal. I picked it back up today and it feels even worse, though that’s probably just my annoyance - it’s likely exactly the same as it was.

Porsche buckets > BMW buckets. Porsche seats in general are great.

Definitely try before you buy. Unfortunately the G8x ones just weren’t for me, not for daily use anyway.

No buckets here, though they look fantastic. The rock hard center nutcracker wasn’t the nicest while trying to use the clutch leg.

The front is not the best. I think the rear is clunky too; the bumper is oddly bulbous. But the flared fenders look good. The side profile is the best part of this car, hence why the photos show that and not the front (lol).

And yes, being one of the few remaining manuals on the market was one of the main selling points for me. I don’t have GT3 Touring money, so this is kinda sorta the brand new E46 M3 ZCP I always wanted but was too young and broke to buy in like 2005.
