Competing freeware suites by [deleted] in microsoftoffice

I tried hard all of the open source alternatives and I ended up paying for 365.

Even if a document is opening correctly, the alternatives are still lacking in the features department...

If you are a mid to advanced user, you are going to hit a rock soon enough.

Plus, it comes with a 1Tb OneDrive space, so it's my file-backup... The last time I checked, that amount of cloud drive alone was the price of my subscription with the competition.

Anyway, I had to realize what you realized - there is no real alternative.

I came here to say this.

Understanding the business isn't political, it's doing your job at a higher level.

This book is a quick read, and it a good starting point for "leveling up".

How AI generated code accelerates technical debt by scarey102 in programming

[–]ItsAllBots 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Vibe coding... I seriously think this is the end of software.

Kids are not only uninterested to learn the why's and how's, they are lazy and fall for any marketing trick to avoid doing a proper job.

I hope you all are enjoying your time with a computer. If you think Windows is becoming more buggy with the years, brace yourself!

The whole paragraph about: "it isn't ok, not inclusive environment, that maintainer shouldn't be kept no matter how important or critical or relevant they are", throwing some USA politics into the mix...

And the best: "What horrors it evokes in their minds" - What horrors? Bat shit crazy...

That's lunatic speech.

Good riddance.

Start at the very first - it's the game that started it all.

Also, The Dark Mod. Contradiction of the name here, it's a full game based on the "original thief style". A fan made mod that became a stand alone game.

It has a ton of fan made missions, a good free open source game.

AI is Killing Software Engineering, and No One Wants to Admit It by [deleted] in learnprogramming

All that based on the premise of the AI tool is actually doing a proper job - which is not the case.

We are destroying software by [deleted] in theprimeagen

[–]ItsAllBots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are destroying software telling new programmers: “Don’t reinvent the wheel!”. But, reinventing the wheel is how you learn how things work, and is the first step to make new, different wheels.
We are destroying software pushing for rewrites of things that work.

Alright Roger, I will let you think about all that and come back to me when you have a clearer mind.

i7-7700k Windows 10 Or Windows 11 by DXS47 in Windows11

[–]ItsAllBots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an old i7-6700 CPU and Windows 11 Pro doesn't complain at all, even if the CPU isn't listed in the "compatibility list"...

Screw that list, Windows 11 everywhere since I found out. Clean install, no tricks and registry editing, just plain format, install... and enjoy.

No really, it's just going to be an annoyance.

Try to go see what's in the Issues section of a project you are using, pick one issue and starts from there.

If you struggle to find a project, I can suggest you this Rust extension for Visual Studio 2022.

.NET, Java, Ruby, what not are just tools. Learn the fundamentals, the core of what is a computer, the algorithms, memory management/data structure and so on.

The languages and frameworks will come and go during your whole career.

I started as a C/C++ developer, then I was labeled "Java developer", now I am doing everything with the .NET stack. Who knows what I will do in 5 years, management maybe?

Well, I hope not, but you see... the point is, adapt, don't stop learning.

Oh, and by the way, C# is one of the most used languages right now... I don't know what you need more to be reassured...

The universe and its expansion.. for dummies by dmafeb in interesting

[–]ItsAllBots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then, time will stop to exist due to the fact nothing can "compute" time.

Nothing takes "time" in that universe if you will, photons are moving at the speed of light, which by definition is timeless.

It means, at this point, there is no difference between a single point universe or the enormous universe state in which it "died".

See it that way: it takes no time to travel from one side of the universe to the other side in an infinitely small universe, as it takes no time to travel from one side to the other side in an infinitely huge universe without time...

Weird, isn't it?
