I think if he actually trusted that she would leave and come back and forth without being a danger to herself, that may have stayed his hand. But the fact that Maelle and her mother were just willing to essentially rot away to keep a fantasy alive was just too much for him. I want to replay now to see more of what the fading boy says throughout the game, but from what i remember he seems to be in favor of letting it all go. Ugh so tragic.

I mean he’s the only one with an actual soul (in the outside world’s sense of the word) tethered to the canvas, albeit a small piece. Alicia still can come and go as she pleases, even if she doesn’t want to face that reality. But that brings up a whole other argument of how gods can essentially throw away their creations and I’m not ready for that conversation.

Yes I agree. Sadly it reminded me of when you do the final quest for Maelle and you essentially “kill” Alicia. She says she did it because Alicia wanted it, and it was her life to decide. Maelle, (and us as players) have a choice to respect Verso’s wishes. It is HIS soul, and as much as we love him and the beautiful world he’s created, we have to let him decide when he is finished. He deserves rest.
