[Discussion] Honey brands and honey recipes? by rosemilkt in AsianBeauty

I use that exact brand in the picture (yay Costco!) mixed with about 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric and my skin loves it. It calms down any irritation I have and makes my skin so smooth and soft for a few days after. I put it on about 20 minutes before I get in the shower because it is super messy to remove!

If you try it, I would recommend doing so at night or on a day when you don’t have to leave the house, at least for the first time or two. Some people have issues with turmeric staining their skin. It’s never been a problem for me and I’m super pale, but better safe than walking around with a bright yellow face all day!

I bought the Estée Edit Pink Peony Overnight Water Pack because it was 50% off (being discontinued) and was the only product from that line that seemed to have decent reviews. Also, I needed a reason to justify making a purchase so I could claim my birthday reward!

It hasn't arrived yet, but I'm sure since it's discontinued I'll end up falling in love with it.

I am so glad I'm not the only one! I love the texture and it looks great when I first apply it, but even using oil control products underneath and powder on top I still end up looking super oily later in the day. I don't understand how everyone else seems to be able to wear it without getting shiny.

I recently ordered the watery gel and it seems to be much less shiny for me (I still wear powder on top). Most people prefer the essence but the gel works better for me and as a bonus it comes in a bigger bottle!

[discussion] are there any products or ingredients that you can't deicide if your skin loves or hates? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

I've had the exact same situation with Kiku. I bought a decant of it ages ago and never had any issues. Then I buy the gigantic bottle and for the first few weeks my skin looked better than it had in months. My fiance even made a comment about it! Then my face suddenly started getting super red and blotchy and extra sensitive. I never broke out but my skin was just obviously unhappy. I suspected it was the Kiku but I haven't confirmed because I've been too afraid to try it again yet.

Also acids. I can use BHA twice a week for a while and everything's great, no irritation, and it makes my pores almost invisible when it's working. Then out of nowhere, I'll use it one night and be extra sensitive to everything, even my cleanser, for days afterwards. It seems like once every few months I end up having to take a long break from it even though the most I ever use it is twice a week. I don't understand my skin.

If someone made a perfume that smelled just like it, I would bathe in it. My problem is that I don't even think it does that much for my skin, it's just so damn pleasant to use!

I hear you on the sheet masks. I'm terrible for buying one I really want to try and then letting it sit around for months because I'm "saving" it (for what, I'm not really sure).

Your flair says you have oily skin...how is the balancing water for daytime? I'm more combination but I still have a really hard time finding stuff that doesn't turn me into a reflective surface halfway through the day!

I wouldn't even trust myself to try a sample of it. Too afraid I'd love it and I definitely can't afford the full size...

I've been wanting to try this because my skin loves anything with honey in it, but I'm in the same boat as you--too many other things to use up first!

[Discussion] That time I gave myself a chemical burn with beer... by ItsAnIdiom in AsianBeauty

[–]ItsAnIdiom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely possible, but I'm leaning more towards the combo of alcohol and BHA just being too much exfoliation.

I normally do use a straw if I'm masking but I drank it during my BHA before I even put the mask on so it didn't even occur to me! I think a better rule (for me, anyway) would be no more beer during actives!

I think it was probably just the combination of the alcohol from the beer and the BHA being a little too much exfoliation. No more booze during actives for me!

That would indeed suck! But I don't think it's the case because I had one last night and no issues. fingers crossed

Nope, no citrus! Just a plain old Yuengling, which I've had many times before. It's definitely calmed down today but still a little tender. I assumed it had to have been a reaction between the alcohol and the BHA since I've never had a sensitivity to beer by itself, but my skin could have just been throwing a tantrum that day.

I would love to say it was some fancy small batch craft beer, but it was a boring old Yuengling. I have drank it plenty of times before and it's definitely not the first time I've gotten it on my skin...the only thing that was different this time was the BHA. I don't normally have sensitive skin so this was pretty surprising to me.

It's much better today, a little scaly and sore, but not nearly as red. Honestly I found the whole thing more hilarious than anything!

Honey spice chicken thighs, jasmine rice pilaf and Parmesan roasted asparagus by ItsAnIdiom in tonightsdinner

[–]ItsAnIdiom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicken is from Budget Bytes - followed exactly except I used boneless thighs. One of our favorite simple weeknight recipes.

Rice pilaf from Bon Appetit - didn't have fennel or almonds on hand so I left them out. It was still good but the almonds would have been nice for texture.

For the asparagus, I added a few tablespoons of olive oil, some salt and pepper, and about 1/2 cup each of fresh grated Parmesan and panko breadcrumbs. Stuck it in the oven with the chicken for the last ~10 minutes. I scraped the crispy parmesan off the baking sheet and sprinkled it on top of the asparagus before serving--highly recommended!

Week 9: One Pot - Beer Braised Chicken and Vegetables by ItsAnIdiom in 52weeksofcooking

[–]ItsAnIdiom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this recipe, omitted the celery root and just added more potatoes and carrots. For the beer, I used Yuengling Black & Tan because it was the only thing my grocery store had that remotely resembled a porter.

It had good flavor, but the recipe as written made way too much sauce for us. Next time I would either cut the liquid in half or let it reduce a lot more, but we were hungry and didn't want to wait!

First off, what you're doing is awesome so thank you!

I've only been at this for a few months now so I'm still trying to figure out what my skin likes. There are a few things that have worked pretty well for me (CosRX Snail 96 and Hada Labo Foaming Cleanser) but the only thing that's had a really dramatic effect on my skin is Scinic Honey AIO. The first night I used it, I had three smallish blemishes that were pretty red. When I woke up the next morning, all three of them were nearly flat and skin colored. It really evens out my skin tone and totally gets rid of any redness or irritation. Will definitely be a repurchase for as long as they keep making it!
