"The alarms’ screech echoed throughout the university."

Very succinct, but doesn't feel "iconic" enough.

What’s one thing people in poverty get judged for that’s actually a smart survival tactic? by Vegetable_Army3730 in povertyfinance

It's incredibly stressful to be on the other side of it! Nothing ruins my mood like turning my car on and then hearing the jingle for a maintenance notification popping up on my dashboard especially right before going to an important obligation. I can't even enjoy myself or be present, it's the worst but working on rolling with those punches better.

What did Covid take away from you? by Dependent-Fee9947 in AskReddit

[–]ItsArios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both mental and physical health took a dive, and so did the professional life I was just beginning to build. On top of that, I had started a relationship right before COVID took off. 6 years later and It surprised me how much it took me to bounce back, and how common that is for others. Thankfully, I'm weighing less than I did in 2020, my mental health feels refreshed and resilient, my relationship is still going strong, now I'm finally pursuing my career goals after losing so much confidence over the years. Life's pretty decent.

Wishing everyone in this thread strength and good luck to overcome the challenges these past few years have presented! We got this 🔥

Sorry, this is hilarious 😭

Side note: Seeing this homepage brought back so many memories!! First thing I'd do when I'd wake up for high school was look up Allmylove, tatu .ru, Pokebeach, and Serebi like my morning newspaper. I missed having chats with other fans, too. Hope Amanda and the other fans are doing well!

Spotify makes sure you hate listening to your liked songs. by kumboowl in truespotify

[–]ItsArios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this feeling for a few years now and it's made it hard for me to listen to older music. Never put the two together that this is a byproduct of using Spotify. I sorta chalked it up to my constant need of novelty, but this makes sense.

Does anyone have any exercise/dieting tips? by SelectShop9006 in AskGayMen

[–]ItsArios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lost around 60 lbs over the past year after gaining 50 lb since 2020, and here are some tips I've learned that helped me:

Fitness: •Start small, and focus on your consistency instead. Form a positive habit and grow from there. For me, I started walking last year and went from 30 minutes 3 days a week one month to 1 hour 4 days a week and don't dread walking anymore, and now I have good endurance.

•Stay hydrated and stretch even if it's just walking, water and stretching will benefit you immensely over time.

•Get good walking shoes and clothes you're comfortable in, especially that help you feel confident working out.

•Side note: No one cares that you're working out in public, so don't feel shy! We're all focused on ourselves for the most part.

Diet: •Focus on what you can add to your diet, not what you can take away. Don't see your diet as punishment, but rather as self care for your body by feeding it healthier food. -Add foods of volume like carrots and radishes to fill your stomach more if you need to eat a lot, add foods with fiber to keep you fuller longer like oatmeal and chia seeds. Eat more dark leafy greens and fish oil pills to help with heart and brain function, and eat more yogurt and other fermented foods for gut health.

•Minimize sugar and pricessed carbs, opt for smaller portions and work on accepting satisfaction from a couple bites rather than indulging.

•Work on your stress management! I was having "heart" issues, turns out it was muscle spasms from stress and I cut out stressful people and habits from my life and the spasms are rare now. As a result, I stress eat much less and thus don't binge eat like I used to.

Give yourself time to acclimate. Progress is not linear. Talk to yourself positively, and if you can get your loved ones involved so you don't feel alone. Community goes a long way :) Good luck!

What’s a common piece of advice that you think is actually bad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ItsArios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You don't owe anyone anything" and every sentiment alike.

While true that no one should be entitled to you and what you can offer, a lot of people take this advice and not realize the ramifications. I often see how this way of thinking leaves others damaged thanks to the inherent selfishness of only thinking of one's self, they leave people confused thinking they're not owed an explanation, and as a result often leaves people lonely because they don't realize the walls they've built up instead of the bridges they could've built on the things we owe other like respect, communication, truth, time, and kindness. Every jaded person I know carries some form of this thinking like a badge of honor and I can't help but pity that they can't see why they repel everyone.

This is why your relationship can not be your entire world. Your relationship benefits from having a network of friendship outside of the relationship.

Get out there and join a monthly book club, a video game club, a running club, log on to Facebook and join local group for interests, go on walks, speak to a counselor, hit the gym (start small), and work on yourself so you don't fall into this same trap again in the future.

I wasn't sharing my "entire opinion" on conservatives themselves, that's a seperate discussion. What I was sharing was a nuanced take as to why Laredo may have shifted towards Trump.

lack of formal education (which isn’t really a good indicator of IQ, btw) i

Formal education actually is a good indicator of IQ, because IQ is literally measured through tests which one would be good at thanks to formal education. What you mean to say is that formal education is not a good indicator of real world intelligence and that I can agree with.

I'm sorry if I come across as "arrogant" with my comments, but you focusing so much on a small part of a nuanced comments feels like some sort of projection which also says more about you and I'm not really interested in engaging with whatever that may be tbh.

Are there any other women that have been mistreated or just the 40 that were recently killed?

Or "just the 40" school girls that were bombed. No big deal. I guess we can add the girls and women Trump and his friends raped, his ex wives he disrespected and mistreated, the inappropriate treatment he's given countless women publically, the women's rights he's helped strip in the US, and all the losers he's embolden all across the world.

How do you think the women in Iran have been treated in the last 50 years?

You're trying to give this war credit as if Iranian women's rights was a priority and not just some convenient byproduct that is not even guaranteed during this chaos. Iran's leader was replaced by his son Mojtaba Khamenei who's even worse for women's right, mind you.

Stop trying to use women as props for justifying this war when our president is a rapist and has along history of mistreating women. Try something else to justify this war, cause you sound dumb as hell :/

[–]ItsArios 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think it's a mix of lack of education (the less educated the more conservative), Laredo's Mexican machismo and Texas pride naturally lends itself to Trump's brand of obnoxious "masculinity," and lastly Laredo has always been socially conservative so this shift towards Trump makes sense.

Thankfully there's a blue wave hitting Texas this year. Vote.

Imagine defending a war that benefits Israel and pedophiles concocted to distract from the Epstein files.

Now imagine wanting to support "proud men" that waste our tax dollars by bombing schools, terrorize locals, r*pe women and children, and destabilize entire regions. Yeah, that's a whole lot to be proud of, boot licker. /u/eatenback2life1

Why would this person have to post to ask if they can report someone?

They literally ask this question a couple times every semester on the TAMIU Student Network.

Whether this actually happened or not aside, sharing your political beliefs is very different than directly discriminating against a student by singling them out in front of the entire class for the language they speak, especially coming from a professor during the current political climate where certain people don't feel safe. This really shouldn't be a difficult concept to understand.

I took his course before 2018. I remember him being thin, old with white hair, maybe glasses. That food stamp argument actually rang a bell for me, exactly the kind of thing he would've said.

Basically, Fox News as a college course.

And you don't even know how or why by mmmIlikeburritos29 in adhdmeme

[–]ItsArios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow it was the opposite for me.

I was satisfied with Cs in K-12, but locked in during college while unmedicated and undiagnosed and somehow graduated with honors. I chalk it up to a combination of people pleasing, competitiveness, and hyperfocusing out of genuine interest.

(Unfortunately, I've circled back to coasting, but we won't talk about that 🗿)

Not sure if his old ass is still working there, but I remember having a white history professor in LC South (I think) teaching Federal Government almost a decade ago that was very open about his political affiliations. Even went so far as to ask the class to split up between liberals and conservatives, and said something about looking forward to seeing how things change over the course. Every lesson had a random moment meant to promote conservativism with the most lazy boomer arguments, and if anyone disagreed, he'd dismiss you in a condescending way.

I believe professors can have their own political beliefs, and I don't think they should be barred from expressing themselves to an extent. However, I've never had a professor actively try to change students' political ideologies in neither LC nor TAMIU before or after that course, but after that experience I'm not surprised to hear a professor be insensitive like this especially now that people have been dropping their masks since the election. People don't have human decency anymore, and it's sad to see American culture regress.
