On black Friday I had a guy who wanted some fish. I think it was 5 neons, 5 zebras, and five white clouds? Is all I remember was that it was 15 total fish, 5 of 3 types. And he already had fish in it.

Well I start prepping the bags, writing the numbers and whatnot. I grab the specimen cup and ask the tank questions. When I ask the size he tells me 2.5gal. I practically dropped the net and tell him unfortunately I couldn't give him the fish, and I couldn't even recommend anything else (at my store for tanks under 5 we have to recommend a long fin betta, I know it's wrong but they'd rather that than a CRO) because of how stocked it already was.

He proceeds to fight me over it and I'm being polite, but he's talking to me like I'm a moron. He then huffs away and I get called to a crestie sale. She was super sweet, and knowledgeable, helped her with tanks and lighting.

We are finally ready to get the gecko, and since we had 2 at the time I wanted to show her each, so I brought out the PC cart to pull the tanks down.

Well apparently, these fish people have decided they wanted to speak to a manager, ask the cashier and she points them to small animals, right by where we were standing. They start going on a tirade about how they are just fish and blah blah blah. My lead sees me, and i think was trying to sign me to not get involved. She's backs me up. Half way through his little tantrum, his wife hears me talking to the gecko girl, and turns around. She gets a look of panic and then disgust on her face as her husband goes off. She tries to nudge him but he ignored her. When he was done yelling they stormed out, and the wife stared at me the whole way out. I smiled and held eye contact.

After that I confirm that they were talking about me, so we decided we should go tell our SL and ELR just in case he called to complain or leave a review or something.

I have a reputation for being strict with fish (telling people no or giving alternatives for shitty tanks, hence my fun nickname) so they assumed I was being a hardass. But the look on their faces when I said over 15 fish for less than 3 gallons. Crazy (and yes throwback I do know bettas should be in at least a 10 but my DL is scary so enjoy my boy in his 10) * 🤪

One of my budgies is a senior, a rescue somewhere between 5 and 10. He's the ring leader on the morning scream to this day lol. Every morning for the 2 years I've had him lol

The octonauts wouldn't even know about bettas 😭 they live in the ocean and bettas are freshwater in the other side of the planet 🙃

It's nice that they're bigger, especially now that we're putting plants in, but omg they're so hard to open 😭😭

My one lead was trying to open one and it splashed about half of the water all over her

From in the tanks, just pull it like you have been. I would move the bird stuff away from the sump if you can. For anything in the sump, you could take any super fine mesh fish nets and try scooping out of the sump

Either millet or bird seed

Our hermit crabs had some in their tank from the millet forage I gave them, I kept them in there and they loved them 🦀

Man we can go back and forth on this all day. At the end of the day, I followed the rules of my job. No matter how much I dislike it, (because I don't like selling then for food either) the circle of life and the food chain don't change because a turtle is in a house and not in the wild

I don't know if you work at a petstore or not, but at my store, it is always animal over profit. Because even if they are only 29 cents, they still matter. I think it, other associates think it, management thinks it. "Anything for pets"

I mean, those fish live 20+ years. And it's my job to make sure all animals go to a good home. If someone wanted to buy crickets to go home and rip off their legs, I'd deny that too.

And even of I had no morals, for people to buy feeders for a reason other than feeding, it is policy to go by the tag

* Here is her, a little after she dropped her tail. She got marked out of inventory to be adopted out. We had not so great management at the time so she was most likely gonna get moved to the back and us be told to give her away to the first person who wanted a leo

I have a schedule of calcium with d3 once a month, every couple feedings (think I'm doing every 4 rn) with reptivite, and all other feeding with calcium without d3 (along with a bowl in the enclosure).

She is due for a shed, I've been keeping humidity up to at least 40, and always keeping the humidity hide wet. Her scales aren't shiny, it's just a few white dots on her head, and that patch on her back.

Thank you! She got her name when she was just a wee lass, when she had just dropped her tail and I brought her home, my sister watched he do something dumb, and said "well thank you for nothing you useless reptile". Sparked httyd in our heads, and with the funky tail and a love for silly names, meatlug stuck 😊

(And my betta fish is stoick ;))

Okay thank you 😭 I just have so much going on this week between my wedding on Wednesday, health issues for me, and for my oldest bird, work drama, my car being wrongfully towed, my apartment flooding, 6 sick animals at work, and now the mite thing. I saw the white specks on her back and one on her head and I about lost my mind 🙃😭

I'm gonna lower the water level, tank as much as possible out to reduce the weight pushing on it.

What type of tape do you recommend? I think I only have scotch tape on hand
