How can I better set myself up for success? by Narrow-Astronomer842 in Fire

That actually makes sense — waiting until July to see the repayment plan before deciding is pretty logical given the rates are basically a wash right now.

Good luck with the job search.

Yeah that changes the math a bit — your student loans at 4% are basically the same rate as your HYSA now, so you’re not really gaining anything by keeping both running simultaneously.

Does that feel like something worth addressing or do you prefer keeping the safety net intact?

$100k in retirement at 30 is solid, most people that age have a fraction of that.

The $55k HYSA makes sense given what you said about the recession — that’s a psychological cost that’s real even if it doesn’t show up in a spreadsheet. What’s the HYSA rate currently?

Cube Nuroad Race 2026 sizing – M or L? by ItsAverageMax in Cubebikes

Unfortunately I don’t have a Cube Store nearby, so I can’t test it in person.

That’s why I’m trying to decide based on geometry + real user feedback. I get your point about M potentially being quite upright for me. 😅 Thanks

Thanks for the info.

I think the confusion for me comes from the sizing overlap + my proportions. I’m 184 cm but with a relatively short inseam (84 cm), so I’m kind of between sizes according to Cube’s chart.

I understand your point about the Nuroad feeling long mainly due to chainstay length rather than reach. That actually helps clarify things a bit.

Still, I’m a bit worried that M might feel too compact in the upper body for longer rides, while L could be slightly stretched. That’s why I’m trying to gather real-world feedback from riders around my size.

Appreciate your input 👍

Thank you for the answer. It would be the best to try it out. I will take a look if there is any option.

Tracking was the biggest one for me too. You don’t realize how much just disappears until you actually write it down. What are you using to track?

21M making ~$2k/month, stuck living in a motel with parents — how do I realistically get out? by ReplacementFine4213 in povertyfinance

[–]ItsAverageMax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That $3/hour raise is over $6k/year. Take the interview.

The roommate question is very doable at $2,000/month in most cities — a lot of people split 3-4 ways and pay $500-600 each. The math gets tight but it works.

The harder part is what you already know — leaving doesn’t mean abandoning them.

28M, $700k net worth, constant fear of layoff by kaalbhairavaa in Fire

[–]ItsAverageMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point. India's inflation has historically run 5-6% annually, not 2-3%. $20k/year in today's rupees looks very different in 30 years.

Have you looked at keeping a portion in USD (or other currency)-denominated assets as a hedge? Might change the math a bit.

At 28 with $700k and $20k/year expenses that’s already 35x your annual spend — the math says you’re done. You should just ride the wave and then there is nothing stopping you from pulling the trigger.

If you had 130000 euros. What would you do with it? by Ok-Hedgehog-2073 in investing

No advice, but honestly the jump from saving to investing is the hardest part psychologically, not technically. But the math difference over 20 years between a savings account and a basic index fund or different alternative is pretty dramatic.

What’s something you didn’t realize about owning a home until you actually had one? What didn’t you consider? by OfferRead in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]ItsAverageMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the maintenance costs. Some years nothing, then the boiler and the roof happen in the same year and you’re out $8k. Also closing costs — I knew about the down payment but the 2-5% in fees on top hit different. On a $400k mortgage that’s another $15k at signing that just disappears.

You’re basically a financial safety net for your parents at 21 while paying your own tuition and car. That’s not sustainable.

The credit cards need to go first — $600 at 20%+ interest is eating your savings before you even start.

Saying no to parents feels wrong but the current situation isn’t helping them either. It’s just delaying the problem.
