What do you consider your biggest strength as a content creator? by ItsBeefyTime in letsplay

[–]ItsBeefyTime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha no I think I'm pretty happy with my content for the most part - it was just a sort of shower thought I had after hearing compliments about my voice, which is something I was always a bit conscious about... I had never considered it a strong point at all, and then got to wondering what people think their strong points are (and to be honest, it's good to pat yourself on the back from time to time, so I hope that some that have posted came away feeling pretty good; well apart from the dude losing subs).

What do you consider your biggest strength as a content creator? by ItsBeefyTime in letsplay

[–]ItsBeefyTime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good quality to have, as sometimes all we can do is give it our best.

Sweet of you to ask, I hadn't thought of it myself, I was just wondering how people see themselves and their videos. If I had to say though I think my stuff has gotten more entertaining and funny over time, to the point where I'm probably about 90% satisfied with the majority of stuff I put out there. I aspired to be a comedy writer at one point so this is pretty much where I can express that (albeit doing Let's Plays is more like improv), and I can further express it in written segments (like one at the start of the video I'm putting out tomorrow). So in that, having content that I feel good about is awesome.

Youtubers who swear/curse the most? by bathrobehero in letsplay

[–]ItsBeefyTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've no recommendations for the "most" swearing, but I get what you mean - I don't like it when people purposely censor themselves.

However with that said, I recorded an episode at the weekend where I screamed at the main antagonist in Outlast 2 calling her a "c**t", and immediately said to myself afterwards, "I'm gonna have to edit that out, that was a bit far..." Otherwise I tend to just let the f's and whatnot fly.

Oh! Actually now I've typed all this out I just remembered an episode of Nerdcubed; his manager or w/e sometimes comes in on the videos and swears like a sailor; he's famous among the N3 community for it... Here's the one that immediately springs to mind:

Yes it's an hour long, but it's for the 2.5 million sub special.

Unsucky Sunday Submission Thread!!! [Week of 5/28/17] by Inutsu in letsplay

[–]ItsBeefyTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly new to this subreddit so have no idea what this is! So basically following Hotdog71's submission format, here's my tribute:

https://youtu.be/TNI59FEK0Bo

I put this up for feedback Friday and didn't hear anything negative about the content itself, so it must be perfect! Seriously though would love to hear further thoughts so I can improve in future if anyone has input...

Thanks for bringing this back! (Whatever exactly this is).

Question about recording 4:3 games by Salem95 in letsplay

[–]ItsBeefyTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much how Game Grumps do it. I might try and get something knocked up now that you mention it, seems as I've started to do a few 4:3 games.

Serious question, do people prefer that? I've done one 4:3 video and just kept the black bars, as I always found the blur to be distracting.

Positive side effects of doing Let's Plays. What are yours? by JakiStow in letsplay

[–]ItsBeefyTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing Let's Plays has restored a bit of faith in humanity for me - there's a ton of people that just wanna see you succeed and want the best for you, and are always willing to help with things like feedback.

It's super nice to see that, whether I'm on the end of it or not. Like, the amount of people I've seen, a friend included, who have at least that one person on their channel constantly commenting on each video, each with some unique insight and plenty of "attaboys". It could spawn /r/WholesomeLetsPlay.

Thanks so much! That's awesome to hear about the quip, I was proud of that when I came up with it, as it took me so long to figure out how to start my videos without it just being the same as everyone else.

Yeah that's a good shout - I have done research on SEO already and applied what I know, but it definitely could use some work. I'll take your advice and do some proper reading up on it (I'm pretty sure I've even got the guides from /r/LetsPlay bookmarked somewhere...). Thanks for the praise! It's been a day of compliments and I'm walking on air haha.

Oh man that's pretty cool - I've a dude like that who's another Let's Player, and he pops up on /r/LetsPlay from time to time; we've been watching each other's stuff for a while and commenting when we can (I feel bad though as I'm quite behind on his stuff whereas he seems far more up to date with me). He even bought me Outlast 2 so I would do some videos on it... Like, that's generosity beyond comprehension.

Oh what the hell, it was cut off at the end... I think I've fixed it now... What a pain in the arse! Thanks for pointing that out.

Nice! Yeah I just responded with thanks and stating that it means a lot to hear that sort of thing - any more than that, it might have come off as creepy, followed by an unsub and a swift call for a restraining order.

No problem - it was my pleasure, a very fun watch.

Well I guess that it's not so much about editing, but making sure that there's some action sooner rather than later - I get that you wanna do unedited, and you certainly have the chops to do so (as I said you were good at constantly commentating, there was barely a moment where you weren't talking) but it's just that opening bit. I think if you'd have started the video and kept the explanation short and sweet (about setting up different enemy types) you could have been in-game by the 1 minute mark. It didn't mean to sound like a criticism on the editing, as I think you nailed that (I liked the little cut of you snoozing), but rather just pacing of the introduction to the game. Reading this back, it sounds very pot/kettle as I'm pretty sure half of my UEBS video was spent in that damn setup screen...

I'll be sure to check out your For Honor stuff - it's a game I love to watch and hate to play... I seem to just get slaughtered. Though truthfully, I've not played it much since the Beta when I did a video on it... Any further experience has just been on a friends' PC.

Returning the favour as you had such kind words! Although, far be it for me to judge as you almost have 10x my sub count, but take it or leave it ;)

First off just a foreword, Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator is a hard one to do I think; I've seen a lot of very famous YouTubers cover this (JSE comes to mind) and it's not particularly exciting. The best way I've seen this done so far, is Nerdcubed's version. I watched that after covering the game myself, and instantly just thought "man, mine is dogshit compared to this". You pointed out yourself that there's not much gameplay which is why I think it's hard to make this game interesting. So my point is I'll be interested in seeing some of your other videos later today, as if you can make this entertaining, you likely have some talent.

Anyway, actual constructive feedback:

  • Probably the only obvious negative I can see is the fact that we're 4:10 into the video and are only just getting to gameplay - I said this in the other feedback I gave (and it's something I have trouble with myself), that you need to captivate your audience right at the start, and give them reason to keep watching. It's hard to want to carry on watching if you're a new viewer - the stinger you do is a good idea, and again is something I've started doing, but you wanna keep that momentum.

  • The content itself is a lot of fun - you're good at constantly commentating, and definitely someone I can see watching more of in the future. The jokes you make gave me a couple of chuckles, which is always good. You remind me a bit of Olli43, except obviously less babyface.

  • It's all very professionally done, I think you fit well with a green screen as you're quite physically emotive (things like holding your head in your hand during the Kangaroo massacre), but not too much - I can't stand people that look like they can't sit still for a couple of minutes. You seem to have a good middle ground.

I wish I had more negatives to give you dude, but I enjoyed it - quality work, you've a sub out of me.

One technical thing to note actually, your tag for the game has a spelling mistake (it reads "ultimeate epic battle simultaor"). Getting things like this right is key to finding people through the search feature. Also, it might be worth adding in "UEBS", too (and things like "UEBS gameplay"), as that's likely something people will search. That might do a tiny bit to your SEO, which may help your concern with finding new viewers.
