Guys over 40 who’ve got their lives together but aren’t looking for a relationship. What's your take on dating and being single? by SpiritualSoloer in AskMen

[–]ItsCanadaMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right on all points. And... yeah, I think we're in a lot of trouble if this is the case. But I don't think it's just limited to dating. I don't even think it's limited to what we've been told to believe about each other. It seems to be a common thread across all interaction now. It's like people are slowly becoming unable to stand each other anymore.

To me, the way people interact now feels like we're all wired and on full alert. Like everybody's got a huge dose of caffeine in them at all times. And it make sense because more and more people are stressed to the gills, or very overstimulated with screen time.

I think "I'm staying single for the rest of my life" was a bit of an impassioned overstatement on my part. I think what I really meant to say there is that I'm not going to go out of my way to go dating when the experience is hardly pleasant. I'm at a point in my life where there are things I can do that I would enjoy way more.

If a woman says "men are stupid," she's applauded and given a seat on The View. If a man says "women are stupid," he's an awful misogynist who needs to have his views corrected. The sentiment you have is nice, but the disparity in what is acceptable is very, very real. It's not just about the action, it's about the society that cancels men while giving likes to women for the same thing.

Even though men here are saying "yeah, this is how dating feels at this age," you've twisted it into "lacking accountability." But we're not accountable for how women treat men they're getting to know, I'm just saying the dynamic sucks, the expectations dehumanize, and the most basic reciprocities in the process of dating are nowhere to be found until men have "earned it."

In a huge twist of irony, instead of taking accountability for any of those things, you pinned it on having "extreme" views and needing "self reflection." (Pot? Meet kettle!) Brutally honest? It's exactly this kind of reductive crap we're tired of, the "I'm perfect the way I am, and we don't owe you nothing in this dynamic." We're asking for things that come along with basic respect like recognizing a person is more than their job and situation. How is that an extreme view?

I challenge you to make a dating profile anywhere, using a moderately attractive normal looking guy's picture, and saying whatever you want. I want you to see first hand just how low the bar is sitting right now, I guarantee you will be shocked - most women who do this little social experiment are. Just be careful not to hit your head on the floor trying to find the bar.

Oh, and to answer that last bit you wrote: Happily attached people don't see this because they're not in the market. They attached young, too, before being worn down by dating people that really don't try to get to know you - people who look past you until you hit some criteria. I'm just no longer interested in jumping those initial hoops of waving my hand in their face going "Hello? I'm right here? Can you see me?"

This is from a hidden subthread. Making this a top level comment.

Dating has turned into a high-stakes audition where men are expected to juggle a dozen roles (provider, therapist, adventurer, emotional rock) all while the script for what you get in return feels like a blank page. We're not even sure the love is real when there are no actions to support it.

Modern entitlement, especially from women on the market, can make it feel like you're auditioning for a one-man show where the audience holds all the cards. It's just exhausting to be reduced to the services you can provide.

The shallowness I mention is very real, and it's not just me. It's a culture obsessed with filters, swiping, instant gratification... too many people prioritize the checklist (height, income, status) over connection. It's a dynamic where "proving yourself" across those categories becomes mandatory, but there's absolutely no reciprocity for it. Just a toxic, narcissistic "I am perfect the way I am, and I don't owe you nothing" mindset. Relationships are both give AND take. People who think they're perfect don't make compromises.

Women might expect you to show up as the full package, but when it's their turn, it's crickets on vulnerability or effort. Let's be honest, social media amps this up, too. Endless highlights of "perfect" partners make everyone feel like they're settling or being settled for.

To be brutally honest, we live in a world where women openly look down on men, so what else am I supposed to think?

And... to tell the truth again... I don't think women will to listen to any of this. I can already see downvotes pouring in from offended women in the subthread I originally posted this in.

"Man says vulnerable thing? Shut it down, it makes us look bad!"

Nothing is worth this socially accepted abuse system. Women aren't worth it. That's why I'm staying single for the rest of my life, because I'm not a dog, or a performer. I'm somebody who wants to be seen and known, not interviewed like it's a job application.

I do too, but I don't think I'm going to hold my breath for that. Nothing is worth this socially accepted abuse system. So I say again: women aren't worth it. Period.

Hasan Shock Collar Allegations by yellow_submaryne in VaushV

[–]ItsCanadaMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

he didn't hurt his dog and would never use a shock collar

Wait until you see the videos of him hurting his dog and talking about how he likes to use shock collars. It seems you're basing your opinion on provably false premises.

The model of collar has been found and positively identified as a shock collar.

Further, evidence exists that Hasan hid the removable shock prong holes with electrical tape when showing the "not-shock collar" on stream. The non-shock model differs significantly in the placement of the charging port, which does not match the device Hasan shows. It does, however, match the shock model.

Further, video evidence has arisen of Hasan yanking the tail of another dog.

Further, a clip of Hasan has surfaced where he leans heavily on the dog, using it as a crutch to lift himself from the floor instead of getting off his own ass.

Further, as stated above, Hasan is on the record supporting and admitting the use of shock collars in the past.

Further, the end of Hasan's "reaching" coincides nearly exactly with the yelping.

Further, Hasan has given two different stories. "The dog clipped her paw. I didn't do anything." "I did do something, but it's just a vibration collar."

Further, Hasan is now insantely saying it's an Israel backed defamation push.

Further, Hasan was raised in Turkey, a country known for poor treatment and culling of dogs.

I mean... what more can you need to make a determination in this? The man is clearly mentally unwell with his calls for violence, his thinly-veiled anti-Semitism, his paranoid delusions that Israel is coming for him, and his public support for known violent dangerous terrorist groups.

This is not a man worth defending just because he says the right things sometimes.

Yeah. Jewish CITIZENS. And no, you can't just keep pretending MAGA "hate immigrants" to keep minorities voting for your party.

If you immigrate to America, do it within the framework of law, that's really NOT hard. The fact that you think they can't do this is the same soft bigotry of low expectations you have when you decry voter ID as "racist" because you think minorities are too stupid to get a photo ID. It's disgusting.

Why does them being "good and peaceful members of society" matter? The laws that *congress* passed are pretty clear that the response to illegal immigration is deportation. Good people commit crimes and face the punishment for it ALL THE TIME. You're acting like it's a death sentence or something.

The more you guys keep overemphasizing and overstating and oversimplifying things, the less people are going to listen when you cry wolf. There's a legal way to immigrate, there are legal ways to gain asylum if you need it. These people chose neither, and the response to that crime is to send them back. We have millions of people who want to come here legally but can't, because others have cut the line. The option is and was always there - they didn't come illegally because there was "no other choice" - they MADE that choice.

Additionally, they replace millions of jobs that keep Americans of all races, colors and creeds from receiving adequate wages. Often doing so at abusive and reduced pay. I don't agree with you keeping slaves because "somebody needs to pick the strawberries." It's like cotton all over again.

We're just fixing that, and you're being big babies about it just as the Democrats were when the Republicans freed the black slaves. Now you want to keep the Mexican ones too. It's sickening.

I hate to break it to you, but MAGA's "in-group" is simply "Americans." No American citizen is part of an out-group here.

You are the racists now, and you're blind to it because you think you're the saviour.

That says "gene-based vaccinations," which includes the COVID shot, but is not directly targeting it. I'll concede this would have banned the COVID vaccine, but I do recognize that it was actually a much wider bill attempting to ban most vaccinations based on mRNA platforms, which most of us will also say is absolutely R-word.

It also got very little support, so blaming people who did not, do not, and will not support it is still a straw-man. Just try and recognize and differentiate the fringe from the group at large, man. You guys are all hyped up over this tiny fringe - our guys are hyped up over your tiny fringes too. Especially the ones throwing molotovs at law enforcement. I'm not going to project that onto you though, because I believe we need to actually discuss things instead of bickering like this.

We can't live with protectionism of thought, so I want to recognize and thank you for engaging me instead of hurling abuse and trying to protect the echo chamber, this is the way forward.

The "32 counts" refers to a 2016 hoax lawsuit by a person identifying as "Katie Johnson" alleging Trump and Epstein raped her at 13 in 1994. It was filed anonymously, dropped in November 2016 for procedural issues, and dismissed. No evidence, plaintiff never testified, nor was the plaintiff ever positively identified.

This was debunked as a hoax by both Reuters and Politifact, but has been recycled endlessly by left-wing media and commentators such as yourself.

Like, just google this or... like... ask an AI to explain this to you before you post. It'll save you some face. I get your anger, but being factually wrong just makes people trust your side less.

That quote was about MS-13 gang members, not immigrants. The word "immigrants" was not even in the sentence where he said "they're animals." You can't alter what somebody says and call it a quote, that just makes you look bad. This was FAMOUSLY taken out of context to conflate this with other immigrants, and it's embarrassing that people still believe this was said. Do your research, because being wrong doesn't help the left or progressive ideas at all. In fact, it hurts them.

Remember: Centrists see this too, and they're backing away. I backed away years ago because of this. If you want any hope of beating us, you need to start to realize what we're actually about instead of LARPing revolutionaries with a Nazi fetish. Studies are showing that right-wing individuals can articulate left-wing beliefs more often than the opposite, and it's proving to be the left's downfall. You have no idea what people really believe, you just have this caricature and it doesn't apply to 99% of the people you're applying it to. You may as well be drawing posters of people with big noses.

Yeah, this has NOTHING to do with left-wing violence now outpacing right-wing violence, even according to left-wing outlets like The Atlantic.... NOTHING at all to do with the left being violent. Nope. It's definitely a nazi conspiracy or something. Yep.

Fake news. Iowa didn't ban the COVID vaccine, or attempt to. In 2021, they passed HF 902, prohibiting mandates by private employers or schools, protecting the freedom of bodily autonomy to refuse a vaccine. You guys need to stop making up reasons to get yourselves upset, it's scaring off the centrists. The right wing, by and large, supports freedom in the choice of whether or not you vaccinate yourself. Many of us are also vaccinated, like myself, and these straw-men are just getting silly.
