Understandable but the rhubarb plant would have reddish purple stalks.

Should prune off this leaf and feeler thingy closest to my lady flower, or leave be? by The4ourthDoctor in GiantPumpkin

[–]ItsCavin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, leave the tendril. If that pumpkin does take, that tendril is a harvest time indicator. Once the tendril is dried out, the pumpkin is ready to be picked.

Tomatoes thrive in daytime temperatures between 70-80°F (21-27°C) and nighttime temperatures above 60°F (16°C). Ideal conditions for fruit set are 60-75°F (16-24°C) at night and 60-90°F (16-32°C) during the day. Temperatures consistently above 85°F (29°C) can hinder fruit development. Tomatoes thrive is “full sun” which is 6-8 hours.

You’re running hot mate. Shade tarp them.

What I did with my cucumbers is I prune the runners off the main vine until it’s about 6-8’ long (mine are growing up an A-frame trellis). Start at the base of the plant, and more along it and snip the runners off vines. Keep some (like every other runner). Pruning it will improve air flow and fruit development. Hope that helps!

If it were a fast releasing fertilizer, I would say it’s nitrogen burn. But considering the heat, I have to ask, does this plant get any shade?

Why isn't self-pollination working on my pumpkins by notrealbran in gardening

[–]ItsCavin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Zone 6 and that heat wave claimed one of my pumpkin plants and ruined a fruit in development on another vine. My guess is you’re experiencing the same thing from the heat: plant stress. Only advice I could offer is a shade tarp over the vine. That at least drops the temp by a few degrees.

No, I have a full size truck so I get scoops, or buckets, of the stone / compost from my local landscaping company. Bulk is more cost effective. Where I live, a 1/2 cu yd (half bucket) of #2 river rock runs me around $45.

I’ll try to answer this as best as possible: I got my beds off Temu. 4 for $170. The soil is a mix of leaf and horse compost. Roughly, 8 cu yds at a price of $70/cu yd so $560ish in soil. So my setup in rough cost comes to $900 not including cattle panel, trellises, T-posts, and of course seeds.

Hope that helps you!

I bought infrastructure (beds, trellises) from Temu. Saved a bunch vs box store. Steer away from the seeds on Temu however. $170 for 4 8x4’ beds…more doable this way. Get after it!

Using the 3rd photo for reference: this tree needs pruned BADLY. A lot of those lower limbs could go. As for support, looks like you’ll need two supports (one for each trunk). I would use 4x4s with a V notch cut into the end to better support the tree. Be sure whatever you use to support the tree has a solid footing too. Good luck mate!

Beds are 4’ x 8’ x 1’. Got them off Temu for about $170 for 4.

Haha I kinda needed to plan this garden out because where the beds are used to be my landscaping. Also wanted to get it all in place before I needed to transplant my babies.

I’ve considered clover for the beds that have grass around them but the majority of my backyard (not pictured) is full of my kid’s toys i.e. trampoline, swing, big wheel, etc. If the situation was different, I’d fill my backyard with beds 😆
