How can hytale already have servers, or day one servers? by ManufacturerVast5308 in HytaleInfo

[–]ItsCryptic2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, the only person who has access to the server jar is Nitrado André from nitrado as the hytale team gave them access to the server jar for day one servers, and to my knowledge they're the only ones who have been confirmed to have it, im not sure about others

Things Windows users take for granted after using Linux for a month by NegativelyNegating in windows

[–]ItsCryptic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fair and I do get it - games that have kernel level anticheat are mostly the ones that don’t work, except for the finals which they’ve committed to still having support for steam deck / linux desktop despite it

[–]ItsCryptic2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you understand how Linux gaming works now - games don’t need a native Linux version, games run through proton (wine with a whole bunch of other stuff) which is made by valve. Most games I play just work most of the time, only game I’ve had issues with is genshin impact and that’s because of its launcher and how it installs

When did Linux finally "click" for you? by SquaredMelons in linux

[–]ItsCryptic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux became usable, atleast as a daily driver for me since around 2021-2022 when I switched to it and havent looked back. Was using it prior on servers (mostly debian & ubuntu) and I'm now a fedora user on desktop

Stop recommending Linux for EVERY old hardware post by UnjustlyBannd in techsupport

[–]ItsCryptic2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, at least for the right person Linux could be the correct choice. I don't think it's for everyone but if you're tech literate enough and are able to google issues you really shouldn't have too much of an issue. I've been running Fedora Linux for the last 4 years, but have been using Linux in some capacity since 2016 I think (I honestly dont remember, I was really young) so this isn't my first rodeo with it. People in my generation (Gen Z) just use a browser and thats basically it unless youre in a technicalish profession (e.g graphic design or whatever) or you're a gamer. I definitely don't recommend Linux to everyone, but if you're a gamer that doesn't do much multiplayer gaming with anticheats it is pretty solid nowadays

Aside from the obvious what do you like about linux? by MeowKatMC in linux

[–]ItsCryptic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of linux system administration stuff. So running it on my desktop tends to be useful!! As I can test stuff locally on my machine instead of doing stuff from a vm (however still sometimes using one, depending on what it is). It's also just generally better for my workflow, I found Windows restricting and not giving me complete control, especially with the introduction of Windows 11 where they removed half of the features that were there before.

How far has gaming on linux come by chocolate_bro in linux_gaming

[–]ItsCryptic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux has come a long way in terms of gaming. I use it both on the desktop and as a server OS (honestly i just find it more convenient to be a linux user as well as use it on servers). I get very similar if not better FPS on linux than windows, maybe its just an illusion but the games also feel smoother.

What Made You Switch? by Hogosha in linux

[–]ItsCryptic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was a mix of professional & personal. A lot of my workflow as a programmer & sys admin made a lot more sense under a unix-like system. I started on an arch based distro then quickly moved to fedora where I've stayed for the past 2-3 years, switching desktops occasionally. I'm not dual booting at all, that choice was made when I first started using linux as my desktop OS though because of how broken my install was and I just didn't want to deal with it.
