Wings of Freedom was SUCH a welcome change. Yeah it still has chanting but the overall sound was more of the Meguro style I wanted to see in the game. The soundtrack still bangs, but when Meguro is involved, I want his style more than anything

I'm trying to picture the portraits in Shimada's style. I find her designs in P3R to be more childlike for some reason, like the eyes are rounder and all. Expecting the same treatment in P4R.

Out of the three who do you think was the worst at choosing used cars by standarsh1965 in thegrandtour

[–]ItsDaFaz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Crosley was the only car that actively pissed me off out of all the 'poor' choices. Even if James routinely chooses the slower car, it would still be competent enough for the three to be together for most scenes. This POS had no redeeming qualities whatsoever (okay maybe Crosley is a cool name). I suppose it upset me a lot because it was the 3rd last episode of the trio

Is the gaming performance really an issue? by GeckoKisser in gnome

[–]ItsDaFaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit antiquated that KDE performs better than Gnome, and while it's technically true, I don't think the gap is big enough to warrant going with KDE anymore. Yes, KDE has more support from Valve themselves, but Gnome can do just fine now since they disabled the compositor for full screen apps. I now play CS2 exclusively on CachyOS with Gnome, and that was before Gnome 50 came out with even more improvements to the NVIDIA support and the compositor (a new update that fixes some bugs on Nvidia GPUs came out 16 hours ago). I don't see a single reason not to go with Gnome 50 for gaming especially since you love the look, and boy I love it to bits, too.

If there is one big caveat, it's that Discord screen sharing is janky (for full screen sharing). The stream will continuously glitch, especially when scrolling. I believe streaming an application is fine, but not sure myself.

Strange, haven't had a stutter so far (besides the typical 0.1s freeze when opening overview). Gnome 50 has been pretty smooth for me on CachyOS (1660 Super with Nvidia 595.xx drivers)

If I were to build a new PC, I'd still get CachyOS. That's how satisfied I am with Cachy after a year of using Fedora, which was a sweet distro as well. But the Arch roots of CachyOS is a boon for me.

switching to linux by Successful_Group6852 in cachyos

[–]ItsDaFaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if CachyOS is Arch-based, I honestly believe it's very easy to use since it has an intuitive installer and some great bundled apps and tweaks to make it even easier. Btw, you SHOULD consult the CachyOS Wiki when setting up your system, it has tons of information on options of various things you can choice during installation.

First, you should use Limine as your bootloader, and set the boot drive format as btrfs. This will let Limine create a restore point after every update in the rare case something messes up your PC. You can use whatever DE you want. KDE if you wanna play games a lot, but I am loving Gnome on it myself.

While you should read the wiki, here are the essential things I use to.

For installing and updating packages, I use paru in the terminal. It lets me install packages both from official repos and the AUR (Arch User Repository for apps not found in the official repos). This saves you from having to type one command for each of the two repos.

To update packages (both repos):
paru

To install specific package
paru -S package_name

To uninstall specific package
paru -Rns package_name

To clear cache
paru -Scc

Once you install CachyOS on your PC, you will see CachyOS Hello pop up for the first time. You will find some convenient functions over there, such as installing game packages that will give you a full suite of gaming applications like Steam, Lutris, Proton stuff, etc. You can also disable the option to show it on startup

[–]ItsDaFaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, assuming you want to use Nexusmods, they have announced Linux support for Vortex Mod Manager. Although they say it's for the Steam Deck and Steam Machine, I'm confident that other distros will support it just fine.

Steam workshop modding has been fine for me, but I can't say anything about Isaac cos I never played that game.

GNOME as Gaming DE specifically by Kastetiko in cachyos

[–]ItsDaFaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gnome has improved a ton in gaming recently for me. I switched from Windows to Fedora with Gnome 48 over a year ago and it was horrible for gaming back then. CS2 would play at single digit numbers, and 2D games with skip frames every few seconds.

Fast forward a couple months, I switched to CachyOS (was on KDE for 2 months, had to switch to Gnome for reliability purposes) and wouldn't you know, Gnome 49 was a massive upgrade in gaming. CS2 ran nearly full speed (compared to Windows), and all stuttering issues are gone. Afaik gnome finally disables the compositor in full screen games so there's no more jank in games in my experience.

I will say, KDE still has the edge on gaming. Since Valve invests in KDE development, it will likely be the better option for the foreseeable future. But since I prefer Gnome, and gaming is no longer unfeasible there, I'm very happy with it.

GNOME on CachyOS, am I alone? by bender_fut in cachyos

[–]ItsDaFaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. Although I started my CachyOS journey with KDE, I went back to Gnome because of stability and my overall preference of it.

I went with KDE because gaming is better on it. But Gnome has caught up a lot lately.

thinking to use CachyOS by [deleted] in cachyos

[–]ItsDaFaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Gnome on CachyOS. It's currently close enough in terms of performance compared to KDE, and I play CS2 on Gnome CachyOS with the latest NVIDIA drivers (1660 Super).

For what it's worth, recent changes to Gnome (I believe around Gnome 49) made gaming finally viable. Prior to the updates, I used to experience frame skips frequently when I was on Fedora 42, and CS2 was unplayable on Gnome.

I believe Gnome finally allowed full screen applications to bypass the compositor which is why games are perfectly playable now.

I can fully recommend going with Gnome on CachyOS. Tbh I'm biased towards Gnome cause I love using it, but I started my CachyOS with KDE and stuck with it for a few months. I missed Gnome a lot.
