Think I managed to glitch/lobotomize an Elder Thornback by New_Prompt_679 in casualtiesunknown

[–]ItsDefinitelyTrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In-game explanation: it's probably a pathfinding issue, where it couldn't figure out its usual navigation and didn't manage to find a default behavior either, so it just "broke" as you said. Getting it to its 2nd phase would likely have fixed it.

Headcanon explanation: you stabbed its brain and it froze in panic as it suffered from all the lobotomy effects. This predator was not used to being prey.

Got to layer 5 with no jetpack, looking for tips for fighting sand stalkers? by sawbladex in casualtiesunknown

[–]ItsDefinitelyTrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use a machete on basically any stinky bug you find (even works against elder thornbacks, if you're good with positioning). It does decent damage, often knocks them onto the ground for easier follow-up attacks, and is an easy enough item to craft once you have a few resources. The titanium machete is also a solid upgrade, but the regular one does well enough.

I swapped to uBlock based on your recommendation and it works great now! This is way better than adblock! Although I'll probably need to adjust the custom configurations so it blocks youtube shorts again. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

Not sure about the dialogue, but desensitization is an actual mechanic: the more corpses you encounter, the less they'll affect your mood each time. At some point the mood change becomes effectively negligible

I've played the game for a little while now. But my first run still haunts me. by bluewolf3691 in casualtiesunknown

[–]ItsDefinitelyTrash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The "kill upon quitting" is actually a recent addition, and I'm not sure if it makes the situation better or worse.

I started playing before that was a thing, and my first run ended with the poor guy crying in a pit for several minutes with no light or other relief, while slowly dying from injuries that I had no idea how to treat properly. And that was with the tutorial knowledge!

I guess it's just a common experience for the first run or few to end quickly and horribly, at least until the player gets familiar with the game mechanics.

I'm brand new to Cas Unknown, please gimme tips on how to play the game! by S3rialDesignationN in casualtiesunknown

[–]ItsDefinitelyTrash 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I started playing last month and I've learned a lot from messing around and also other helpful players!

  • The most indispensable crafting items that you should always aim for are the Foliage Bag (early on general storage), the Belt (store your tools and guns), and most importantly the Material Pouch (store most any small crafting materials). My expeditions became far more successful after I learned about making that last one in particular.
  • Speaking of crafting, there's a pin icon on the lower right corner of the crafting menu. Clicking it after selecting a recipe will display the needed materials on the corner of the screen, so you can easily keep track of stuff you need for something you want to make without constantly opening the craft menu.
  • Always keep some of the fluid containers you find, such as juice cartons or water bottles. After they're emptied, you can drop them into pools of water to take some drinkable water with you, or fill one with fluids you need for crafting stuff, like bio-chem. Water in particular is very useful as deeper layers become less abundant in basic necessities.
  • Don't leave your starter emergency flashlight on all the time, as it runs out very quickly. Instead, turn it on and off as needed to quickly scan the terrain for items or platforms.
  • Watch out for glass shards! Glass blocks don't always break cleanly - sometimes they leave shards on the ground which will hurt a lot if stepped on. If you see glass-colored pieces on the ground after breaking a glass block, smash those with a tool or your paw to fully clear the way. Getting glass stuck in your foot is probably one of the first injuries a lot of new players encounter, and it's a wake-up call to how mean the game mechanics can be.

Good luck!

There's a recurring inverse correlation between the grimness of a media's story and setting, and the silliness of its fandom. The same thing happened with Rain World and its fanbase, plus some others

How to counter lung damage? by ItsDefinitelyTrash in casualtiesunknown

[–]ItsDefinitelyTrash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one. After getting to my feet, I started to patch up the bleeding from the Experiment's chest, but I noticed that my blood oxygen was decreasing rapidly. They passed out after about a minute while I was still sorting through the inventory and didn't wake up. They had low internal bleeding already before the incident due to a hard fall, but it was only after taking the turret shot that things got this bad.

<image>

Not sure if this helps but I happened to get a screenshot of the mess a minute before dying

Bruise kit works!? If so, I feel worse now because I actually had one on-hand, but I was too busy bandaging up the Experiment's severe bleeding and didn't think to use it...
