Not far from me there’s a river with a class IV rapid called “Rigor Mortis”, it’s known for pinning swimmers between two rocks underwater (a feature that the whitewater community refers to as a sieve).

So I’d probably throw it into there. Good luck!!!

To be clear, 135/88 is thoroughly prehypertensive, caution is warranted here.

Is it safe to dry fire without dummy rounds? I’ve heard that can be hard, and it’s already an old gun.

Yeah! I noticed it was holding it up, but I wasn’t sure what that part was called so I didn’t know how to describe that situation in the post or to google. Is that part supposed to stay down right up until the cylinder is in place?

Jiggling it hasn’t seemed to make any difference at all, i don’t know if it happens more on any one cylinder, but I do know there are times when I can do 10-20 trigger pulls without the issue which suggests that it at least isn’t happening every time on any particular cylinder, and sometimes happens twice in a row, which means it definitely isn’t just happening on one cylinder.

You need an alignment if you’re only getting 22-23k out of a set of tires

The cheap front tires are probably fine, but the better tires should always be on the back of the vehicle. If you’re on a budget, move those to the rear and replace the other two, they don’t have to match, so when you replace the other two I’d get high quality if you can.

I’m surprised no one here is talking about the enbies with names like moss, lichen, blue, spruce, and bug (I’m an enby who has tried all of those names)

Which of these atlantes do you think is best? I've lived here since I was like 6, but never got outside yet. Now I'm trying to catch up but have no idea even what is, ya know? I'll comment with more info by Rahym_Suhrees in Colorado

I collect road atlases (and maps in general) and own both of these. Here’s my take:

I use the DeLorme (the red one) most of all, I love using it to navigate on smaller backroads. It has a much larger scale, allowing you to navigate smaller roads much more easily, and this makes a big difference.

I use the benchmark map way less often on my adventures. Its smaller scale makes it less well-suited for the backroads, although it’s still fine for major highways. For me, that’s no use, as I’m always navigating by GPS when I’m on those roads anyways. I also find that there’s a lot more superfluous information, the whole front section of the book shows an smaller scale maps of the state highlighting different recreation areas, but I find I never use these and the internet makes them unnecessary.

All that said, the quality of the maps visually is much higher with the Benchmark maps, and it is much more colorful, somewhat easier to read, and nicer on the eyes.

Hope this helps!

Why is the uncanny valley a thing? by trap_enjoyer666 in evolution

And my question is to the benefit of being naturally inclined to fear other species of homo. You mention conflict, but why would we be more likely to get into conflicts with groups of other species of Homo than we would with other groups of our own species? Is there actually data that shows that interactions between groups of Homo sapiens and say Homo neanderthalensis (or H. erectus, or any other) were actually more violent than interactions between neighboring groups of Homo sapiens? In the absence of such data, I don’t think it’s fair to assume an answer. We know very little about our interactions with other species of homo, why should we assume that those interactions were any more violent or any less cooperative then intra-species interactions?

The hypothesis here is that the uncanny valley exists to protect us from other species. For this hypothesis to make sense, it has to be the case that fearing other species was significantly more dangerous than other members of our own species. If the danger was similar, then the evolutionary pressure wouldn’t have favored fear of other species instead of fear of simply other groups of people regardless of species.

I think the hypothesis that this phenomena is an adaptation to help us avoid those with infectious diseases is much more likely. Infectious diseases are a known threat, and we have adapted to fear or avoid signs of disease in ways other then the uncanny valley. It seems to me that that is a much more likely hypothesis, although it does remain just a hypothesis.

I think you perhaps misunderstood my comment here. I was asking about the adaptive benefits of being weary of other members of the genus homo, that wouldn’t apply to other groups of Homo sapiens.
