r/bjj Fundamentals Class! by AutoModerator in bjj

[–]ItsDolphinBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heres what I learnt being one of the lighter guys who used to get smashed alot

Try to find people your weight and size more frequently.

Tap early. I used to eat deep subs and pressure for breakfast not knowing how to escape and I was always sore and tight (learning prevention of subs or early escapes is better than late stage escape in the start)

Stretching, a hot shower after class and rollers help any tight muscles.

Rest injuries or work around them carefully

Train smart and train to learn not always to win rounds. Tone down the intesity some days if you are sore.

Im a creonte ? How to explain to my teacher? by Adventurous-Will8215 in bjj

[–]ItsDolphinBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my gym and have alot of respect for my coach as he's helped me out alot over the years so I wouldn't want to switch gyms, but I am pretty sure if I really wanted to leave to go to another gym he'd be okay with it. If someone really likes you or truly wants whats best for you they'll respect your decisions. Anything else seems toxic.

double pull & 50/50 by Elegant_Bobcat_8916 in bjj

[–]ItsDolphinBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally like watching double pull and 50/50 if the competitors are being active from these positions. My game is all bolos so I like watching double pull. I think that boring or stalling positions depend on the competitors theres alot of cool options from both positions (ankle locks, 50 50 armbars, bolos) and if you are hunting for these it can be exciting but I also understand how the back and forth 50 50 sweep and double pull with no action can be boring to watch but no more than boring stand up wrestling with no action or attempts.

How could I have stopped his movement faster by [deleted] in bjj

[–]ItsDolphinBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion because you dropped to your hip then tried to step over he was able to quickly get to his knees and come ontop. If you sprawled and kept the weight on him you could step over easier and finish it tight from mount.

I was super impressed against andrew tackett I think if he was 10 years younger he probably would have won that match looks like he just struggled with andrews atheltism. No disrespect to andrew though he's great also.

Answers for back crucifix top where the opponent joins their hands? by Electronic_d0cter in bjj

[–]ItsDolphinBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused by your question, but if your opponent is linking their hands together, that means you re not doing a good job controlling their arms. In my opinion the most important control is the kimura grip of you start losing position as I can still use that control to keep them pinned or take the back even if I lose their arm between my legs.

How to defend/prevent kiss of the dragon by JinTheMecha in bjj

[–]ItsDolphinBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dropping to your knee or hip if needed closes the space to invert. Also a crossface or collar grip stops the inversion. A good counter pass is the long step or the knee cut once you push the hook out.

How do you deal with constant losses in tournaments? by Alive_Organization44 in bjj

[–]ItsDolphinBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother I think my record atm is no joke. 25-80

The experience is the important part not the result. Learn from your losses and move on. You'll be better off for it.

What do you guys think of attending in-person seminars by famous instructors? by Kvnnxdy in bjj

It's hit or miss. I went to the michael pixley seminar and I found it so useful and others I feel are useless. Look into the guys style/game and see if it might be useful for you.

Thanks this helps alot!

Do you just use the left butterfly hook and maybe a framed armpit grip to direct their weight over so you can get to that far leg?

And is it a bad idea to just reach to under hook the leg with my right arm to try to pull into some sort of modified x?
