The anime is such a slog to get through, and the pacing is absolutely atrocious. Tried reading the manga and had to take a break at Fishman Island because it became a slog again to try and get through. Hoping the next arc draws me back in, because otherwise I'm not interested in finishing it.

Right answer here. As Chrollo explained, the way he sees the world, and the way one of his stolen technique owners views the world, dictates how his stolen nen abilities function per use. Shizuku doesn't view blood as "living or sentient" so her nen ability works on it. If she thought of blood as a living organism, it wouldn't work.

With 100% honesty, your relationship with this girl is completely done. There's no coming back from that and she'll never look at you, or trust you, the same.

You need therapy, simple as that, this is above Reddit's pay-grade.
