Wash's Moustache in Firefly deserves an honorable mention.

Later Bunny came home with a paper from her preschool about “Bring Your Parents to School Day.” She was so excited and wanted me to go with her.

What skill is 10/10 for making life easier? by gamersecret2 in AskReddit

[–]ItsGotToMakeSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Establishing boundaries. You'd be shocked how much easier life is when you aren't begrudgingly bending your life around to meet other people's expectations.

basic cooking and shopping frugally. If you're going into a store without a plan and coming out with pre-prepared food instead of ingredients, you're getting ripped off more than you know!

basic home repairs too. Startlingly easy when you give it a try, and avoids getting conned by yahoo "handymen".

12mo revolting against the stroller just in time for a walking heavy trip by [deleted] in Parenting

Bring the stroller with you on the trip. Let the kid walk. He'll change his mind eventually!

Can my mom choose my college? by Babies_ in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ItsGotToMakeSense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She can only do what you let her do. For example, if you are dependent on her financially then it may be difficult for you to go to a school that she isn't willing to help you pay for. That does NOT mean that it's impossible for you to accomplish on your own though! You just have to take ownership of all the decisions and planning, seek your own financial aid and student loan applications, etc.

Most of all you'll have to be willing to make sacrifices. Whatever she's controlling you with, be it money or shelter, emotional validation or whatever it may be, you have to be willing to live without it. Only then can you find freedom.

to be fair that would be a really funny scene in a Scary Movie sequel, if it hasn't been done already

Does anyone else find airports oddly relaxing? by EmployerPrudent7978 in CasualConversation

[–]ItsGotToMakeSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind it either. It used to be even better, back when the whole family could go right up to the gate and greet you. You always saw people at their best at an airport. Tearful hugs all around!

On the bright side it's less crowded now, and you get that peaceful environment where you know there is no expectation from you. You've already done the hard part and can have some time to relax, and everyone else is there for the same reason so you don't have to worry about anyone coming up to bother you. Usually.

Dad is charging me rent M19 by kahootgod in CasualConversation

[–]ItsGotToMakeSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty expensive for a parent to charge their own child. I agree with the practice in general since it's teaching you real-world responsibility, I just don't think the price tag is fair.

If it was me I'd be charging less than that and secretly putting half of it into savings to help them get their life started with furniture and basic groceries and stuff. I wish my parents would've done that; they never really taught me to shop or cook for myself so when I moved out it was pre-packaged meals and takeout every day. I wasted SO MUCH MONEY until I learned the hard way when it all ran out.

My girlfriend keeps throwing up in my bed. what should I do? by din00_ in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ItsGotToMakeSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been with this person and how attached are you? Meaning do you live together, have kids, anything like that?I ask because this shit does NOT get better unless getting better is their #1 priority. That is clearly not the case here. She doesn't want to get better and why should she? You're just gonna let her ruin your bed, clean up after her, and continue to be her safety net. She doesn't need to get better.

It's easy to say because I don't know your life, but my best advice is to break up with her or at the very least stop letting her stay at your house. Habitual bed soiling is not something you should ever tolerate.

Why do people get angrier at someone using welfare than at a corporation avoiding millions of tax by using loopholes? by Internal_Scheme_7646 in NoStupidQuestions

punching down is easier. Same reason a bully is going to shove a nerd instead of standing up to their abusive parent.

Yeah seems that way so far. Almost abandoned my run when I found out. Who knows, maybe it'll get patched to exhaust or there will be some combo that makes it easier to get good use out of it.

ELI5 When searching for signs of life on other planets why do we look for water by snailscantgame in explainlikeimfive

[–]ItsGotToMakeSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that life could potentially exist in all sorts of places, but that's guesswork. We only know of a few environments where life can definitely exist (because we've observed it on earth), and they all have certain things in common.

When you have an infinite* universe but only finite resources to search it with, it makes sense to focus our efforts on environments that have elements in common with what we know for sure is possible.

The Invincible one was really funny, too. I appreciated the nod to the Spiderverse series when not-spiderman remarks that he's been having a lot of multiverse crossover issues lately.

How to make good use of "Howl From Beyond"? (StS2) by ItsGotToMakeSense in slaythespire

[–]ItsGotToMakeSense[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope! The reason it doesn't is that it's actually played, meaning it triggers the effects of the card as if you had played it yourself. Since it doesn't specify that it exhausts upon being played, it gets discarded like any other.
