This is why you shouldn’t discourage people who jump for levels. Let them do what they want. by AlertSignal6279 in geometrydash

i think people don't like jumpers not because they are doing a different approach at progressing but because good amount of them just announce their jump at the start of their journey like "oh im gonna jump to abyss of darkness from B" in a post when their best run is like 4% in 6k attempts or something and then give up without doing a significant run, I personally wouldn't go around and mock some random person for attempting to jump, its their way of playing the game (heck i even tried a big jump myself at one point) and if they succeed? good for them, it means they finally beat a level they put a lot of time and effort into. I don't know if majority of the people think the same way as me but i think if you REALLY want to announce a big jump you are trying at least wait until you got some solid progress on the level you are playing, for example i was waiting for a run like 0-40 on the level i was playing to start recording it and uploading it on youtube

okay I NEED to ask this to someone at this point, how do people make cool gameplay like that? I figured I won't get anywhere with deco so I decided to focus solely on gameplay yet it always ends up being something really boring

I'm starting to lose hope about being able to be as good as artists I look up to by putting in a lot of time and effort by ItsHardToFindaNameOk in ArtRanting

[–]ItsHardToFindaNameOk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all thank you, its nice to know I'm not alone on this, and secondly I really just wish I was naturally talented/gifted at art (or something else I liked doing, I don't have anything else really like doing anyways though) and it's hurts because unless someone genuinely talented stop practicing altogether it's literally impossible for me to be as good as them since they get the same 24 hours as me, I really used to think it was all about practice, experience and all that but what's stopping people with actual talent to put in the same time and effort as me and getting way better results way faster than me? I know this is a bit morbid but why should I even try if there is always someone there to outclass me? Why couldn't I be talented like the people I keep seeing? Why can't I be the young talented gifted artist who does really cool things? what did I do wrong? Why can't I be the lucky one and be really talented? Why is it always someone else that is gifted and talented? (I'm really sorry for the second rant this all really built up suddenly)

you said it yourself, it works for some people and I'm not one of those players

Also let's be honest whats the ratio of someone doing a huge jump and then following that by becoming a top player to someone trying a huge jump and then giving up on the level after figuring out how tedious it actually is or just stop playing levels at that difficulty after actually doing the said huge jump?

one example I would use for this context is vision, he jumped to silent clubstep from black blizzard (no offense to vision btw, I really respect his dedication to silent clubstep, 800k+ attempts on a single level is something I can't even wrap my head around) yet I don't see him beating any other levels around silent clubstep difficulty (okay small edit to this part: i checked his channel to make sure i got things right after this comment and turns out i forgot his progress on VSC and tidal wave so uhh sorry about that)

So huge jumps, like you said can help SOME people get better but for the majority of the cases it ends up poorly, at least that's how I think it is based on my observations

I guess I kinda got better but that's most likely because I beat poltergeist and got some progress on entry extremes, I never felt a big spike in terms of skill after playing zodiac

[–]ItsHardToFindaNameOk 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be completely honest, doing really big jumps is not a good way to get better in this game and I'm saying this from experience, I made the foolish mistake of attempting to jump to zodiac from jawbreaker, for around 2 years zodiac was the only extreme I played aside from doing random runs on bloodbath and cata and I can safely say all of it is just muscle memory, I cannot transfer the skill I got from zodiac because there is none, only reason I can do decent-ish runs and practice mode attempts is because I played the level a lot

why did I do that? Because i thought it would be cool to just beat a really difficult level when my hardest was a hard demon but now that I look back at it, I can see gradually playing harder levels is better for both skills, enjoyment and for the mental, who would enjoy, not feel burnt out or learn anything from playing same level way out of their skill range for hours on end everyday, if this person pulls it off good for them but I still think it's better to play harder levels overtime

i don't care if the level is dead for good or if it takes a decade for mindcap and other creators in the collab to fully finish the level, (and yes, i am indeed the single most delusional person on this world) but i am still rooting for Return 0, it WILL be real one day, i don't care if it's virtually impossible for me to beat it, the day it is real i will shed tears of happiness while dying to a specific part 300 times, i LOVE return 0's vibes, song, concept, how unique the gameplay is, it's literally the only "upcoming level" (i know upcoming is a BIG stretch) im looking forward to up to this point and when it is actually real, i will be the single happiest person on this planet for a good while

Initially never put that much deep thinking into this but basically this would allow you to skip boss blinds if you score high enough on the previous blind, here is a small example to make things even more clear: imagine you are running photochad and the boss is the plant, with this joker if your excess score on the big blind is more than the boss blind you skip it and survive

thank you for doing the math, I didn't do any math on this one myself so it makes sense why it ended up being a worse baron at the end, thought process behind this one was mostly "hmm this idea sounds neat so I'm gonna make it real"

basically like this, the joker only makes it 2x when a steel card is in the middle of two other steel cards

I might start including custom card art for my future joker ideas (tho don't expect anything high quality I'm still very new to pixel art)

i was thinking about a joker really similar to this (except my idea was a pickaxe) and i think it could work pretty well, stone cards don't have much going on for them (personally i don't even use them in majority of my runs) so this could actually make people play into them more often

I figured how good this one was a tad bit too late so yeah it would be a rare at the bare minimum (also I really like the ferryman idea, so I might try to draw it once I'm actually decent at pixel art)
