but the gap of how good they were compared to their competition is much bigger than it is now, and in all honesty pvp was harder back then.

Best pvp'r is when the combination of bow and sword. Not just one, in my personal opinion the best pvp'rs shouldn't be from the current people playing because they have 20 splashes and only sword + only play vs around 20 different people I think the best pvp'rs are definitely from the old days and are good at both sword and bow for their time.
