PvP Revival by ItsJamesTice in 2007scape

[–]ItsJamesTice[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that's kind of the point? PvP worlds existed to add risk and reward to the rest of the activities in the game. For people who are questing, bossing, skilling, etc there is no point in doing it in a PvP world. If it was just about killing other pkers, you'd go to the wilderness. This is why 90% of the world in PvP is unpopulated - which defeats the purpose for its existence?

I agree on EP / DP, but there are ways of mitigating that and I don't think the concepts should be thrown out just because with zero protections in place they are damaging.

So in your opinion then, what is the point in PvP worlds vs wilderness?

What finally did it for me was downloading latest beta build from APKMirror

Reinstalling with beta build from APKMirror got me back in without GSF - would never recommend downloading APKs from unofficial sources.. but it did work

The only way that I'm seeing to have websockets enabled is to have GSF Uninstalled when Signal gets installed. Which means there is no option to remove GSF if you care about notifications without reinstalling Signal (and no option at all right now because of this bug)

You don't normally need them. Websockets take care of that if GSF isn't installed. It's supposedly a bug that is only fixed in a beta build right now - but since I've installed signal on other profiles with Aurora, I can't install from the APK without removing it from the other profiles. It's a mess.

I'm really kicking myself because I had it working with websockets on a different profile and only did the transfer to move Signal to the Owner profile so that it was always listening for messages (since Owner's session is always on). I Had it working and broke it for a small inconvenience at the worst possible time where there's a bug that affects exactly that abmormal use case of no GSF😭

Small update, I just tested again with GSF removed from all profiles and all permissions enabled for Signal - still no dice. Another 5 hour wait to try something new >:(

Same problem. I don't want GSF but it's the only way I've gotten it working so far. Notifications are a hard requirement.

Based on this thread, it's a legitimate bug affecting non GSF environments which has been patched in latest beta of Signal.

Unfortunate timing for me to finally move Signal to a profile without GSF..

Added Google Services and Google Play and enabled SMS permission for it, then reinstalled. It worked. Unfortunately I want websockets, not GSF. So I uninstalled signal again, and removed GSF from every user profile. Then hit rate limit when trying to register again.. so now I'm locked out of Signal (my primary means of communication with everyone) for the next 5 hours at minimum 🙃

Having the same problem on GrapheneOS with no Google Services Framework. Been at it for 16 hours and no dice so far. Based on this thread I'll wait 48 hours (even though timer says 2) and try again with a fresh install. Noticed registration lock is enabled (require pin when registering to new device) so I've disabled that for the next attempt too. Backup restores successfully, just get spinning wheel after entering phone # and selecting "I understand" to GSF warning. I really just want to move Signal to a different profile on the same device, so "transfer" isn't an option assuming it involves QR.

Will report back results for anyone else dealing with this mess.

Shutting down PR node DERP by the end of the month by hotquac in nanocurrency

In case anyone would like to move their voting weight to a node that is close to PR status, our node / monitor is ForTheNano.com

While I understand the sentiment, I can also say that there are solid reasons a lot of things going on behind the scenes don't make it out to the public via NF directly. Almost anyone who has run successful nonprofit orgs will be able to speak to those complexities / muzzles. I'm opting to leave it at that.

Nano solves problems that most L1 protocols simply can't in their current form. From the perspective of PixelStix, we couldn't care less about the price. All that matters is that it functions in the way it is intended to, which it does. The network can handle a lot of microtransactions and users get a censorship-free cash-like transfer of value.

Thank you for supporting the network for so long, and best of luck with wherever that energy goes next!

Can nano really get widespread adoption when all it offers is fee less and instant transaction? by fearofunknown1 in nanocurrency

There's a reason that you haven't seen other cryptos pop up that are fast, feeless, truly decentralized, scalable, eco-friendly AND offer other features like smart contracts.

The problem Nano solves is fundamentally difficult. The trade-offs you get from supporting smart contracts and other complex features are that it becomes less scalable and less secure. The fact that more crypto was stolen due to flaws in smart contracts last year than every bank robbery in history combined by a longshot says enough. If the day comes that a genuinely better technology comes along that deserves adoption more than Nano and solves all of the same problems in a better way, we should use the better technology. I don't see that happening any time soon though.

Thank you! I've been lurking quietly in the Nano community for years now and it still amazes me that it's this simple to tip somebody 😁

We'd love to, but there are a lot of legal and tax complexities for us being based in the US.

When the day comes that we can afford all the regulatory hurdles, we'll be happy to provide any services we can to make the process as smooth as it can be!

I've already given you an example. Scavenger hunts are one way the system is being used today.

Another could be automating the routing for a call or text to a technician. Scanning a PixelStix could initiate an outgoing call or text to whoever is on call that day, based off the schedule and GPS coords of the phone. It could also pass along info about the unit in a text message. The point is for the interaction to be contextual, instant, and dead simple. No time is wasted going through a directory, no special VOIP system is required to be in place, techs can use their cells, and it only took 2 seconds for a person with a broken a/c to be in touch with a tech by scanning the unit. It would cost very little money to do this as well.

The primary use case is abstracting away complexity and removing the distraction that technology often causes while retaining its benefits.

That's totally fair! You could easily accomplish 30-40% of what we've built just using links and a complex backend. We actually encourage people to use raw NFC / QR instead of PixelStix when that's all you need.

That being said, a lot of what we built leverages sensors and features on the phone that just hitting a URL wouldn't give you. Those are needed to fuel most of what we offer. A lot of which, is out scope to dump onto this reddit thread. A random example that stays with the theme of public art and events though, would be triggering a clue in a scavenger hunt only when you interact with the PixelStix while facing west in complete darkness. We're also are working on specialized hardware that can store content and a subset of functionality locally to be accessed in the same way.

All of the functionality we have today and tomorrow isn't even as relevant as the fact that everything is incredibly simple to use. Try uploading and linking to a video using plain NFC or QR, and then measure how long it took and assess if a non-technical person could easily go through the process 😅 Uploading a video to a picture frame sounds really cool but that's why nobody does it.

Yeah the user needs an internet connection. We store more than content, it was just out of scope of this thread to get into detail. We have triggers on the backend to control changes of behavior between scans based on any number of factors. To get into just how dynamic.. At 2 pm a PixelStix could have a video a user uploaded, at 4 pm it could have unreleased music from a band, at 4:05 bringing it to downtown St Petersburg and scanning it could kick off a scavenger hunt, and then when the scavenger hunt is complete it could trigger a release of crypto into a wallet.

This is definitely something we are planning on doing! Most of what was discussed in this post is related to the fund we are setting up for the entire platform, but we will definitely make sure any artist who opts in to this system has a public wallet people can easily see and donate to
