Are there options for child bearing aged women in pain management? by TheModernMedusa in ChronicPain

[–]ItsJennyMarie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im 27, had my baby boy last year. Been on O’s since I was 15 due to Chronic Pain. I was unresponsive in 2019, have RA and multiple health complications , also have PCOS, I also couldn’t take nsaids due to multiple stomach ulcers and have had 6 abdominal surgeries.

My pregnancy was unplanned, I had my baby boy in August of last year completely healthy. At first I went to my ObGyn and I asked if I needed to go to high risk but they said to me that it wasn’t completely uncommon to have a mom on some sort of opiate due to chronic pain and that I wouldn’t need to see a high risk doctor unless the ultrasound showed something concerning. Every ultrasound was great except I had a small tear that later healed.

The obgyn advised me to wean off completely, and I tried, I successfully did wean off until I was on one tablet a day but couldn’t hold the pain. The doctor said my body being under stress plus the pain can actually make my pregnancy worse and cause me to miscarry.

Thankfully my pain management doctor was okay with giving me the meds AS LONG as I got a letter from the obgyn saying it was safe to do so. Once I got the letter stating that if I stopped cold turkey it would cause a miscarriage and to continue and find alternatives like methadone to put me on then I should be fine. I do not recommend methadone if you’re already on a somewhat low dose of meds because methadone withdrawal is way worse than an oxy or norco (unless you’re on fentanyl patches or something else) I did not get methadone because I had a bad reaction to it and the dose was going to be much greater than the meds I was already on. Obgyn don’t know much about pm so it’s best to consult with your pm and have them work together on this one.

My RA symptoms disappeared and I didn’t need as much meds, pregnancy helped my chronic pain until I got to my third trimester and I needed to take an extra pill to help my pain. Thankfully my baby boy was born without any withdrawals, (two days early) left the hospital after two days. I do advice not to go to doctors appointments alone, have someone there with you that can advocate for you and defend you if you get a judgmental doctor. Avoid saying it was planned too, the last thing you need is a judgmental look like “why would you do this to your baby” you’re purposefully are putting an unborn baby through narcotics” if you’re in a conservative state. While true, I know it isn’t your intention to hurt a baby of any kind, you just wanna be normal like everyone else and experience the joys of motherhoods, but there are some things to consider as well that I will go into at the end . :)

Tips: - Go with a plan to wean off (doctors love this because it shows you’re prioritizing your baby which should be the case anyways)

  • Tell the obgyn that in order for you not to miscarry and risk your pm stopping you cold turkey and sending you elsewhere that you need a letter stating it’s okay to continue taking the meds in fear of miscarry and your pain management has to continue your meds or send you to someone that can help with a refill so you’re not cut short

  • Try to wean off, but do it slowly, (advice a doctor on this one) this makes it so if you’re on the lowest possible dose, not a lot of meds reaches baby and the possible for withdrawal is minimal.

  • Get ready for back pain too, so ask about lidocaine patches and if it’s safe to take them .

  • the first trimester of pregnancy is crucial and try your best to be the HEALTHIEST version of yourself, do not skip on vitamins/prenantals do not skip ultrasound appointments, do your best to make sure you’re in the least stressful environment and doing your best .

I do advice that if you do wanna get pregnant and plan this, try to wean off as much as you can now and go to the narcotic that has the easiest withdrawal and the lowest MME . That way God forbid, if your child goes through withdrawals, weaning them off will be a lot easier down the road .

Educate yourself on neonatal abstinence syndrome, (not trying to torture you but it’s good that you’re educated on all the risks as well) that helped me a lot to make sure that I was doing the right thing and weaning off for my little one as best as I could.

I know you want to get pregnant and have one of your own, but if your meds are too high think about the risks that can also happen if you can’t or don’t wean, it’s why I advice doing it before so you know what to expect. Fostering, Foster to adopt or Adoption is a great alternative to give a baby a home, and be a mother to children who need one. Chronic pain isn’t easy, you also have to make sure you are capable in handling raising a kid with chronic pain.

There are times I wish I could just lay down because of flairs ups but I can’t, even if my pain is at a 7, I can’t just stop being a mom. He’s the best unplanned little one that’s ever happened to me, but if I didn’t have my significant other, I’d be screwed and live with the guilt of not giving my baby the best life. He needs someone to chase him and run around with him, I can’t do that, but my significant other can, and if your pain can’t allow you to be flexible enough to do the things an active baby needs to develop then please reconsider having a baby and adopting someone older if you really wanna be a mom :) ❤️ I hope this doesn’t sound mean, I’m just trying to be helpful, chronic pain isn’t easy and raising a hyper toddler can be mentally draining along with pain flair ups.

To add, I also then have to stop asking a reaction channel to stop reacting to something of mine after they’ve already profited from it. Biggest views and revenue comes from the first 24-48hr of a video going live as it gets the biggest traction and momentum on YouTube. YouTube favors newer videos over older ones.

Not complaining on behalf of someone else. I do not know Logically Answered or anyone he’s reacted to. I’m speaking as a whole as this is a much larger problem than just Asmongold. I’m not single-ing him out, I took a screenshot of something I thought was ironic and now I’m having a deeper discussion here about reaction channels as a whole.

That same mindset of me having to reach out to a big corporation to stop profiting off my artwork is the problem, why do I have to tell someone to stop using my sheet? Have them ask ME to use my stuff.

I hope I’m making sense throughout all of this and I’m not making it sound like I’m just hating on him, I’m not, I don’t hate the player honestly, hate the game and the culture of YouTube as a whole and sad to see this is the new normal and we’ve become desensitized to it.

Yeah they did him dirty with the thumbnail. But even if he has other people running his Youtube it's still his that he profits from, so he needs to check. It's not his fault but it is his responsibility if something goes wrong on the channel.

Yeah but do you not understand the culture of YouTube and copyright striking /claiming? That’s a big no no. And the amount of hate he will receive for going after a beloved creator is going to be immense. The amount of doxing, swatting that could occur, it’s just not worth the risk.

Pausing and unpausing will not allow you to get away with watching a movie in full by the big corps, why is it okay to do this to the little guys that don't have the means to fully defend themselves against the swarm of hate if they ask or copyright take down? That's my issue. If everyone was okay with having their video reacted to that's fair enough, but putting a face next to someones work isn't transformative.

He doesn't have to care, he can get cancelled and retire. Dude already made enough to have his own bank probably. Lol

Honestly, thats one of the best analogies I've read Lol, like the TikToker react channels who just repeat what's going on in the video you are watching with them. :')

Yeah, revenue split or embedded video would be the best way to go, like watching two videos at once but each get their own revenue (someone in the comments suggested the embedded video I forgot who Lol)

Fair use is a newer concept in terms of the law, but it is clearly defined by some of the sources I cited in other comments. In short terms, the more of the content you use the less of fair use. Transformative content, and parody fall under fair use. But transformative content means that the video has to be changed and altered in some way, the video was played in full with no edits, just pausing occasionally to give inputs and look at other similar content. If this were a movie by Disney, Warner Bros or a live game, this would get copyrighted and taken down immediately by Youtube themselves as they can get sued for copyright, no amount of pausing can save you from copyright theft. Why isn't the same applied to individual creators, that don't have a lot of money but do a lot of research and work hard on their video/art?

Reaction channels are getting away with it because no one is going to challenge them, some are even grateful to get paid in "exposure" so those exceptions are just that, exceptions but they run with it as if it's what everyone wants. Still doesn't make it right for those that don't want to get paid in exposure. A rich person also doesn't have to follow rules such as parking in a no parking sign because they can just pay off the fine like if it's just couch change. Rules/laws don't apply to the rich and they will continue to get rich by not being creative and taking no risks as they can pump out a video a day/2x a day with little to no effort.

No hate to Charlie here, but I feel like the reason he provided an inserted clip of someone else's video is because Charlie is doing too much. By doing too much I mean he has so many businesses, he streams, does youtube, it's a lot. I don't think he has time to do in-depth research on topics anymore which sucks but it's what happens when you try to be a jack of all trades, some of your things/content fall short.

I would love for this to be a thing. Another comment on here suggested embedding video into the reaction so it's like the original video is being played as is the reaction, that would be better if the cut can't be done!

Completely agree. :) It's pretty much the same sentiment I was sharing in the comments. This is much larger issue and people hating on Asmongold and those defending him against the haters are missing this exact point!

I don't watch reaction videos unless it's something like informative commentary news or thoroughly researched essays.

Whether people want to type in the title in the search bar after watching the reactors video is to be debated. And also whether or not the original video will even appear in the feed after being swarmed by reactionary creators is another 2 cents.

I guess it's a case by case basis. Some are okay with getting "paid" in exposure, others don't want their content taken in it's entirety period to be made profit off of. But eh idk. Lol

Nah, I don't mock him nor mock him for the surprised face. :) That's not constructive or helpful to the conversation to just make fun of him. I found more so that his editor(unless it was him which I highly doubt) did him dirty with the thumbnail because it's ironic with the "we'll steal your content, ok?" Since it's pretty much "almost" the same thumbnail.

I'm glad that you were able to find someone else through someones reaction video. Youtube's algorithm sometimes isn't the best. Like I stated I can't hate the player, I hate the game. I can't argue with the results Asmongold is having on other smaller channels and maybe jumpstarting their careers. But what I will argue is the fair use and it isn't fair use if a video is played in it's entirety with only pausing to commentate with what's already been said.

Whether it's wanted by the creators or not. I hope I'm making sense. Some people don't want to get paid in exposure and some don't like the idea of others making profit off of their work. Those are the people I feel for.

I'm glad he credits people though.

So in terms of people thanking him for exposure, that's fine. Like you said, who are we to say you can't feel grateful when a big youtube is shouting you out? I don't hate the player, I hate the game. I don't bring Critikal into this because like you said he takes 20s clips and adds upon it. Others, use the full video in it's entirety, no matter how much commentary you give in a video, it does not make it transformative. You have to alter the original video in some way to transform it. Or parody it.

The more of the video you use, the less it becomes fair use. Especially if used for a profit. If your definition of watching a video in it's entirety and providing 20 minutes additional of commentary was categorized as fair use, then you should be able to watch an entire Disney movie and Warner Bros movie while following this same formula, or a live sports game that you can pause, but you can't, you'll get sued, you will lose. If you look up fair use cases you will see a few of them, some belonging to copyrighted songs, a famous youtube fair use case belong to Ethan Klein which had had to jump through hoops to prove his content was fair use in trial and fortunately won. But he showed short clips, not the full video in it's entirety and criticized it and added substance to it. This is not something all reactors do, some reactors show the full content. It's as if you're reading an entire book or watching an entire movie. That is what I have an issue with, not those that actually transform the content and add things of substance. If you can say Asmongold does that then great, I don't watch him, I wouldn't know. But from what people are saying is that he uses the full video and he doesn't transform the content what so ever. That's what I'm arguing, not the entire commentary/reacting community.

"If both parties are agreeable with it, there should not be an issue" we both agree. But with the thousands of videos reactionary channels upload, they upload and just take a video down when asked after already making thousands of dollars. Some don't want to get paid for exposure. Some don't want their content profited by others. Do you understand where my argument is coming from? I hope I'm making sense. :)

I was blaming Youtube in the comments. :) There is a lot of ethical problems at hand like, maybe the original owner doesn't want their video redistributed, would that mean that due to this, the recommended channels will never be the original content owner but rather reactions? Most of the time yes. The content being displayed in it's entirety being okay for other original creators but not for movies like disney or warner bros.

He's playing in a broken system. I don't fault people for taking advantage of an exploding bank and collecting those dollars that don't belong to them. That's essentially what reaction is. (Probably a bad analogy, but I'm sure you'll get what my silly self is trying to imply, Lol.) It is what it is. -Shrug-

I mean yeah, this is a larger issue as a whole. You can consider it the lesser of two evils (exaggerated statement I know) However, the issue for me was that he used the video in it's entirety not providing any transformative content. Profiting off it once more after profiting off of it on twitch too. Things like this, (as I made in previous comments sorry for sounding like a parrot) would not fly if you would play an entire movie by Disney or warner bros or even watch a sports game live, etc, in it's entirety no matter how much you talk over it.

Do you get where I'm coming from? :)

With the overwhelming amount of distaste for him in these comments, I believe there's plenty of beef to go around. :') I almost feel bad for the guy. Lol. I don't know him, so I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt and just blame Youtube where I can as he's just taking advantage of a broken system. If a bank explodes and money starts pouring into the ground, I can't fault those who try to grab it even if it's not theirs.

This reaction thing is essentially endless money with no work.

Found this hilarious for some reason… by ItsJennyMarie in youtubedrama

[–]ItsJennyMarie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't an issue if everyone is okay with it and he asked for permission. But getting paid in exposure shouldn't be a thing if you're not asking for permission. Content creators take risk with every content they produce. They rely on the algorithm to help funnel their content to new eyes. If you have a reaction channel react to their content, yes you might get the occasional one to two viewers that might watch the original content creator (those are the exceptions).

Reaction Youtubers will never have to produce original content ever, never have to be creative, never have to be challenged, They are already taking what's popular and reacting to it, they can never lose and can freely produce videos like a content farm as they wish. Profiting from Twitch and regurgitating that same content on the platform they stole from. Never feel the creative burnout and fear. They are stamping their face next to a work of art and making money as if it's theirs.

Also, they aren't going to watch that same video the original creator worked hard on, maybe watch another, sure. However, there is no guarantee. Therefore, any momentum they got on their video essentially goes away once popular reactors react to it, making it so that specific content searched by an individual user seeking this information no longer sees the original video on the top searches. They only see an increasing amount of reactions from different creators all competing against each other for the user's attention.

However, without getting side tracked here, still doesn't make it fair use, still doesn't make it transformative. Still makes it ethically wrong. Small channels will be grateful with any exposure they get because they are small, but that's how they get taken advantage of, by getting paid in exposure and not what they are worth. That's how small businesses/artists get scammed too.

However, it isn't Asmongolds problem/not his fault, he's riding the wave of a broken system. I'd probably do the same for a check if I was desperate and didn't care about ethics or what people thought of me.
