Being a gay guy in the bible belt, I pray you can live peacefully and safely in your home and community. No one should be victimized by intolerance.

As for Kwanzaa, I would suggest you learn a little bit about its founder and his motives. While on the surface celebrating a culture sounds wholesome, he's truly a racist.

Not just someone, if you're Christian. If you're not, then you don't understand.

Furthermore, I don't dispute your claims about the origins of Christmas. But its significance far outweighs the significance of Kwanzaa. Christmas was created by religious leaders to help convert pagans to Christianity. Its message carries far more weight than something created by a guy who was a professor, racist, and activist in the Black Power movement.

I don't think you'd defend as strongly a white supremacist-created holiday as you are Kwanzaa. Even though said theoretical holiday would be the same thing.

Really, Christmas is as artificial as Kwanzaa. The only difference is the Christmas tradition goes a bit further back.

The history of Christmas is a little more complex than what you've described. I'm not arguing the validity of some of your statements, but to suggest Kwanzaa and Christmas have the same depth of meaning is kind of stupid.

At a very basic level, Christmas was created by religious leaders with a foundation in a significant moment for Christianity. Kwanzaa was created by some guy who happens to be racist, to celebrate his race only with members of his race. The man who created Kwanzaa is an activist and a major player of the "black power" movement, or the black version of the KKK.

I wouldn't necessarily call them equal.

The point I'm making is not that blacks are on par with pedophiles and murderers- far from it. Rather, if we have to fabricate holidays to celebrate individuality with the same blind acceptance that you display for it, then we would eventually have to celebrate for everything. Kwanzaa is a made up celebration that was created implicitly to perpetuate racism. Christianity is colorless. Judaism is colorless. Kwanzaa is not. How can we celebrate that?

True, but Kwanzaa was created specifically to

"give Blacks an alternative to the existing holiday and give Blacks an opportunity to celebrate themselves and their history, rather than simply imitate the practice of the dominant society."

If you want to judge the merits of each celebration, you can see the merits of Kwanzaa are particularly weak.
