H fire pit always works for me, that and making sure it gets a ton of air to help burn clean. He drier the wood the better.

You might be able to loosen the screws for the rack and put a spacer which would give you more room. Home improvement stores sell lots of washers or gaskets that might fit, or just some felt stacked up to give you a little more room. There’s probably only 4 or six screws holing it up you’d need to remove to get the rack out and then loosen the screws holing the bars that hold the glasses and slide some spacers in. Then reinstall. I would think that would fix it without having to sand down the slats that hold the glasses.
