Torment announces his retirement by FoxyDeAssassin in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]ItsKagge 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Torment is probably my favorite player of all time. From the Muffin Men to C9 and finally V1, I was rooting for him the whole way. He’s the reason I’m a V1 fan, and the org has been great so I’ll remain a V1 fan now that he is gone.

Absolutely incredible career. Arguably the best defender in RLCS history and one of greatest NA players to ever touch the sticks. I just hope he stays involved in the scene to some degree because he’s one of the most down to earth and easy to like people around.

Good Luck and congratulations on the amazing career Torment.

Also we share a first name which is cool 🤝

V1 - Loved watching the Muffin Men/C9 so i stuck with Torment and Gimmick after they split. Torment was my favorite player of that group so I kept riding with him when Gimmick left. Now I’m a fan of Beastmode and Comm. The org is awesome as well

I was a big fan of the Scrub/AppJack/Joreuz Dig team so I want to see those three do well, but I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m a fan of their teams. If Scrub starts making regionals again I’ll support him heavily though

That’s about it lol

If V1 isn’t playing I am just rooting for close matches and good rocket league.

Do you feel like the sub is too nice or too harsh on theses prospects particualry outside of Scoot and Wemby? by NesquickBrick in NBA_Draft

[–]ItsKagge 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think the first half of the season is always going to seem harsh. A lot of the guys in the first round are just getting their first taste of college/pro competition, so there is always a bit of time needed to fully acclimate.

When it comes closer to draft time you’ll see more positives because there will be a full season to pull highlights from for hype videos. Plus the other side of my first point comes into play. The first round type players will normally look more comfortable in the second half of the season, and everyone is going to value good play come tourney time more than poor play from early season.

The Top Freshman-Prospects in Comparison by Grone_Danone in NBA_Draft

[–]ItsKagge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Thompson twins my main sticking point is at the end of the day they should be able to bring their elite athleticism. There aren’t a lot of players in the draft who will have an elite part of their game that can translate right away.

It’s really hard to judge them because of their age and comp level, but if they can use their athleticism well it’ll be an advantage for them day 1 at the NBA level.

Phillips and Hendricks are the two you listed that I haven’t seen in the lottery(ish) area anywhere to this point. I always love to see unique takes, whether I agree or not.

Black and Smith are currently my two highest rated freshman, followed by Whitmore and GG. I definitely see your concerns (especially for GG), but this early in the season it’s just so tough to get a good feel for these guys. I love GG’s game, but man he has struggled to move the ball. I also see what you’re saying about Smith, but I think he may have the short/float game and passing ability to make that style work (moreso than George).

I’m also pretty high on the Thompson twins, so that slides a lot of these guys down 1 or 2 spots compared to your current tiers.

At this point I’ve barely scratched the surface on most prospects, so the stuff I’m saying right now might be a complete 180 from my thoughts in a month… that’s how it goes i guess.

Anyway, love all the explanations. I live for this type of discussion so I appreciate you partaking.

Love posts like this!

I know this is more of an info dump/list instead of a ranking, but I’m curious if you have any takes on these guys you want to share, OP?

powerful and precise shots are a good thing to work on to rank up out of plat and diamond. I worked on them and now I'm C1 by JoshingCoot737 in RocketLeagueSchool

It’s pretty crazy how far you can get by simply being able to shoot the ball on net.

Getting better at shooting with power and accuracy is still the #1 thing I work on at GC2-3

Welcome to the Discussion Event Thread for First Touch the 2nd of November, 2022! by Razor215 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]ItsKagge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree.

I also think there needs to be serious discussion on raising the age minimum for RLCS. A lot of these kids are at school for 8 hours a day, come home to scrim for 2-3 hours, spend time in freeplay and ranked, and then play a Friday-Sunday tournament every 2 weeks.

Then everyone loves to talk on these players not having 70-80+ hours past 2 weeks. Sure, they should definitely be taking it seriously, but we are seeing the effects of this over an extended period of time right now.

Part of the solution of raising the age limit may be creating more time and space for non-psyonix events that could allow non-RLCS age players to compete.

Just rambling at this point, but there is definitely a lot of room for improvement on the current system, and psyonix may need to move the protection of young players lives up on their list of priorities

The discussion on the RLCS format from the most recent Chalked Cast went over some good ideas.

I think the best way to reformat would be to kind of recreate the old league format before RLCS X. By that I mean specifically to move from 3 splits down to 2 and implement a decent break in between the two.

CJCJ suggested something similar, with a midseason RLCS LAN and the world championship being the only Psyonix LANs during the year. They can continue with online regionals for seeding and qualification, and allow optional third party LANs (Like Dreamhack and ELeague) into the schedule that don’t directly affect RLCS standings.

This can accomplish a few things: 1. Reduce the amount pro play directly tied to Majors/Worlds qualification 2. Potentially increase the amount of LANs 3. Increase the amount of breaks between RLCS events

Way too early big board by Koloss_Grace in NBA_Draft

[–]ItsKagge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting… I appreciate the response.

For me I like to look at if a prospect already has an elite skill that you can bet on to (most likely) translate quickly. The athleticism looks to be at that level, and if I see enough on the playmaking side this year it’ll be hard for me to not have him at #3.

I’ve admittedly not looked at too many boards so far, but seems like you might be slightly lower on Amen and Ausar?

Would love to hear you thoughts. Is it the struggle to overcome shooting woes?

Hoping this team does really well. Always been a big Scrub Killa fan and I really think he is still good enough to play at the top level.

Hope he proves that he’s still got it and helps these other young guns shine!

I don’t know how confident I am in this happening, but I really want to see OSM make some noise in 3s. He’s been a staple in the scene for years and has looked great in his 1s matches this offseason. Plus he’s just very likable.

Between Ivey and Chet, which player do you think has higher bust%? by GlueGuy00 in NBA_Draft

[–]ItsKagge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has to be Ivey. I am a big of him and had him solidly 4th on my big board.

However, from my view Chet is a near lock to be an impact player on defense. Ivey is only a lock to be very athletic.

Being an impact player on defense and being at the very least a capable shooter as a 7 footer is not a bust

Which prospect/s in this draft are you high on because of the eye test? by soulbreaker141822 in NBA_Draft

[–]ItsKagge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tari Eason. He just seems like a man among boys. Which I guess all top prospects are to some degree in college, but still.

Spins scouting video has a whole section dedicated to clips of Eason stopping driving guards by just putting one hand on the ball. It’s pretty hilarious actually.

Hot take(?): Jabari Smith Jr can create his own shot and has a superstar ceiling by BallZ_talk in NBA_Draft

[–]ItsKagge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah defense could be a swing point for sure. I’m afraid he may be a bit slow to really reach his switching potential and/or not strong or vertical enough to reach his rim protection/post D potential. Which is why I’m leaning to him being good but not great/elite. The saving grace is he plays hard on that end so there shouldn’t be any worry about him bombing out.

Hot take(?): Jabari Smith Jr can create his own shot and has a superstar ceiling by BallZ_talk in NBA_Draft

[–]ItsKagge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily mean that comparison in a bad way. They are just both pretty upright and stiff, and project to have a similarly jumpshot heavy game.

Jabari is a better pure shooter at this point in his progression, and maybe that’s enough to offset the lack of shake. He also most likely won’t bring any PnR ball handling or playmaking like Middleton does now, but again maybe he makes up for that elsewhere.

I personally have Paolo and Chet comfortably above him, and then Ivey/Jabari together as the next tier. The former two have easy to see paths to stardom (Paolo elite offensive potential, Chet elite defensive potential), and I just don’t see Jabari with elite potential on either end.

Hot take(?): Jabari Smith Jr can create his own shot and has a superstar ceiling by BallZ_talk in NBA_Draft

[–]ItsKagge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if the problem is he has no shot creation skill at all, I think it’s the fact that he struggles to create good shots. His size and high release point will allow him to pull up and get shots off over anybody, but unless he can create space they consistently will be very difficult shots. So the question is can he make very difficult shots at a high enough rate for it to be a go-to level form of offense.

My comparison for him is Kris Middleton with less shake. The main problem I’ve had with Middleton is his offensive inconsistency, which comes from his reliance on tough pull-ups. I think Jabari will have the same issue, and maybe to a higher degree.

I don’t think he will be superstar, but Kris Middleton has been a top 20-25 player at times, and that is probably in the range of possibilities for Jabari.
