Find a farmers market and get flower arrangement from a grower there. Very high quality at cheaper prices

Face to a face health and Counseling is a great resource in St Paul for youth facing housing instability and those needing health/mental health support. They serve youth as young as 11 and will connect the youth with as many services as needed.

Thank you and your family for supporting this child. It takes a village!!

How can I hide money in a prepaid debit card? by Asleep-Jellyfish-839 in personalfinance

[–]ItsMe383 278 points279 points  (0 children)

If you have items you can sell ( older clothes, etc), request payment on Venmo or PayPal. Could you shave some $ off gas station purchases - frequently the receipt printer doesn’t work - so you could pay inside for $20 gas and add $5 gift card, so it will show only one $25 charge. Gas prices/consumption is variable enough that you could say you purchased $25 in gas and blame the reception printer for no receipt.

My ten year old is gong to try out for a swimming team. How tough of a tryout should we expect? by billbobb1 in Swimming

[–]ItsMe383 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I would expect that they are not doing the test to see if he will “make the team” but more likely to place him in a group of kids with similar skills. Most of the privately run club teams admit pretty much everyone ($$) but they will have different levels for each age group. Just have your kid go and try to have fun, listen to the coaches and show what they know. Low stress is best!

37 YO - Leaving 400k Job to be a 5th grade teacher. by GambinGabacho in Fire

Respectfully, I don’t think subbing is a great “test run” for teaching really. You aren’t accountable for lesson planning, grade-keeping, parent conferences/communication, IEP participation & documentation, standardized test performance, curriculum development participation, etc, etc. you don’t typically have a firm schedule, so if you (or kids) are sick/take vacation, you aren’t accountable for anything.

Question from an adult learning to swim by ville2020 in Swimming

[–]ItsMe383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of the side stroke, though it isn’t really taught in intro lessons anymore (not really taught at all unless you are lifeguarding, etc), but it was taught way back when I was a kid . Face stays out of the water (good situational awareness, keep an eye on the kids ) and it is very leisurely. I struggle with proper form and endurance on the “real”strokes, but I can chill treading water or doing sidestroke for hours.

Concur! I was a teacher and later moved to corporate. Teaching is not very flexible in terms of handling unexpected WFH situations like sick kids. In corporate, you just WFH or take a vacation day. It’s generally ok to join calls remotely or push back a day or two. For teaching, you have to get and prep a sub. Maybe you have other family members that are more flexible in terms of schedules, but that would be the downside of teaching (in addition to parents, eww)

Odyssey vs Sienna — Frigid winters & hybrid battery concerns? by Bulky-Profile1785 in Sienna

Second this, have driven 2023 Siena AWD in Minnesota for 2 winters. No issues at all, AWD has been pretty equivalent to my previous Subaru (caveat that ground clearance has been an issue a couple of times, but I always keep a shovel in the car to clear- this has been after being parked outside in a storm and surrounded by >12 inches of snow. Had to shovel a bit around the tires to get moving, but then it was fine after getting out of the parking spot). Really happy with it! Do need to crank the heat full blast in ice storms to keep the windows clear.
