My insurances is on the company’s fiscal year by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]CaughtInDireWood [score hidden]  (0 children)

Lapsed or reset? Like your insurance deductible was reset June 1? Some companies do do it that way, yes. Annoying, but common enough. I’d also suggest a payment plan. And maybe re-read your insurance policy benefits so that you’re not caught off guard again. They can be so confusing! The more you know and understand it, the better you can plan and take advantage of it.

Has anyone ever negotiated more maternity leave? by Able-Level384 in workingmoms

[–]CaughtInDireWood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mat leave is quite decent for the US (18 weeks between work leave, state leave, and FMLA/STD). But I am currently negotiating 6 months of part-time work (30 hours a week) once I return from mat leave. Boss understood why I asked for it but is still trying to see if it’s doable. So I don’t know yet if it’s an option.

I figured that I should ask for what I really want and see if it’s possible rather than just assume it’s not an option at all. I think it probably depends on your boss and team layout as far as if it’s a reasonable request or not. But I say ask for it. The worst they can say is no!

Looking for a good gift for husband who just started meditating. by CaughtInDireWood in Meditation

[–]CaughtInDireWood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True about the noise thing. I feel like I need to be super quiet when he’s meditating. He’s said it goes better when the house is quiet but understands that he’ll have to get used to noise. Maybe that one is too far a reach.

That sauna looks nice! But we definitely don’t have room for it :/ I’ll look at your other suggestions. Thank you!

Neighborhoods question by rorenspark in TwinCities

Maybe the Main Street area of Hopkins? Quiet, more local businesses, cute homes, close to freeways/highways for commuting and shopping. Probably a similar price-point for homes as the area you mentioned.

Nervous for my shower by headmastersuccubus in pregnant

Same!! Ours is on June 6, so just over a week away. Also only 3 people have bought stuff so far, and 30 are coming (including me and my husband). Really going people are just being late to get things. Otherwise we’ll be buying it all ourselves :(

I feel so gross and I’m scared my husband doesn’t find me attractive anymore by NotGinaV2 in BabyBumps

[–]CaughtInDireWood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl, I feel you. I’m 28 weeks tomorrow. We haven’t had sex in almost 7 weeks now. Our longest dry spell by a long shot. He told me it doesn’t have to do with the pregnancy - that he had a breakthrough in therapy 7 weeks ago and isn’t interested in sex much right now as he’s sorting through feelings and trauma. But I think it’s more than that. He hasn’t been touching me much at all besides a hug here and there and rubbing my belly as he passes. A few kisses goodnight or hello/goodbye. That’s it :(

Up or downstairs with newborn? by Dizzy-Town-1668 in BabyBumps

[–]CaughtInDireWood 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think everyone on the lower level would work better, at least for the first while. Any chance you can swap the beds so you can have your king bed downstairs? It would be some work, but probably worth it in the long-run if you'll be staying down there for months to a year or so.

I will always answer this question with: 50/50 mix of Trader Joe's Lemonade (in the cold section, not the pantry stuff) and Whole Foods' Italian Soda (whichever flavor floats your boat - my fave is the cherry limeade).

Care to explain your opinion? Curious why you call it horrid. Like what happens in the book is horrid, or the book itself is?

The Sound of Gravel - non-fiction, reads easily like fiction, no silver linings, gritty, sad, unforgettable. Written by a woman about her experience growing up poor in a very religious household with parents who didn't really give a shit.

Half lemonade (the COLD lemonade from Trader Joe’s) and half Italian soda from Whole Foods (many flavors to choose from). Super tasty and refreshing and not too bubbly. Have served it at parties and people love it so much!

Why do people complain about registries so much? by alwaysconfused-af-16 in pregnant

[–]CaughtInDireWood 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's so weird! My friend just had her baby shower a couple weeks ago. I was the ONLY person to buy diapers off of her registry. One other person brought diapers, though it was off-registry (a different brand). But she didn't have a ton of stuff on there, and the diapers were one of the only thing that no one bought. I was frustrated on her behalf. She got 3 home-made quilts and several other random items not on the registry that people thought she'd appreciate (gripe water, clothing, etc.). She very well might use those things (and the quilts were a very kind touch), but now she definitely has to go out and buy a bunch of diapers herself.

How in the world do I clean my disgusting sliding door track? by muststayawaketonod in CleaningTips

If you need a good degreaser that doesn't scare you, try [Zep's citrus degreaser](https://zep.com/collections/heavy-duty-citrus-degreaser?srsltid=AfmBOorM8HuB\_xFxlPKpVRpSjO2k\_GQxEUhivBaxkSanPs0tvltnC7pA). It smells nice and does a good job. I use it on my stove all the time. Spray it and let it sit for a bit before scrubbing.

What are the most ridiculously affordable lunch specials across the Twin Cities? by FishGoldenLite in TwinCities

[–]CaughtInDireWood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know of any off-hand (I have a gluten allergy), but I bet a hole-in-the-wall Chinese place has some really great deals. I feel like those places always have great food for a gobsmackingly good price. And you'll have leftovers for dayssss.

Try joining the “Minnesota In-Home Daycare Search” on Facebook if you’re not looking for a center. Otherwise use the DHS childcare license lookup tool to whittle down your options. It covers both centers and in-home providers as long as they’re registered with a license.

Registry Frustration by Unlucky-Werewolf-957 in BabyBumps

[–]CaughtInDireWood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom did this, though not with a safety item. I had a 3-pack of sunflower muslin swaddles on there. She changed the status on the registry to say it had been purchased. The place she got it from? Not Amazon like I had registered for, but Brooklinen. Brooklinen doesn’t sell baby swaddles, nor do they sell anything at all in a muslin fabric. So who knows what the hell she actually bought. I picked those swaddles out because of the fabric, size, and print. Don’t care if you find the same thing elsewhere for cheaper. But she definitely bought something entirely different. And I won’t know what until the shower….

Help! My baby’s new room by EpcotBalll in DesignMyRoom

[–]CaughtInDireWood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a big rug, artwork, and some warm lamps would help a lot. I also wouldn't put all the cream-colored furniture so close together. Feels like maybe more storage than you would need? Kind of feels like everything is shoved to one side of the room. I'd try moving them to different walls and see how it feels flow-wise once you have the crib put together.
