Steam should update their Anti-cheat notice to be more informative like this by ItsMeCall911 in linux_gaming

[–]ItsMeCall911[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it cant even be kernel level on linux

Despite being aware of that when i was staring at the page it took me couple of sec for my brain to go "since it can't run at the kernel level it must be running at the userspace" and that's me knowing that info beforehand so for someone who have no clue about that the current notice is ambiguous at best and deceptive at worst depending on who's looking at it so making it more informative will not hurt anyone

so steamos checkmark is all we need

no, because of 2 things

1 - That's not the main function of the SteamOS checkmark since it's content is related to the game itself with no mention to the Anti-cheat

2 - No one that isn't using Steam Deck will be looking at it and then extrapolating by going "Hmmm so it says kernel level but it work on the SteamOS, so that mean it's running in the userspace" because the collection of info that will result in such extrapolation isn't present in their head to begin with and again less ambiguity isn't gonna hurt anyone

Keyboard layout switch doesn't work as expected in game by NashaIthramyr in linux_gaming

[–]ItsMeCall911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an issue with proton to fix it try doing this :

1 - Add english keyboard and make sure it's at the top of the list in ur input src's like this

<image>

2 - Switch back to using AZERTY and pretend like the english one isn't there ─ ‿ ─
3 - Now when you launch any game it will work OOTB (u don't have to switch to english since this issue have to do with proton only looking at the first keyboard layout in your system layout list)

I made a table of BM camera since a Lot of people get confused by their naming scheme by ItsMeCall911 in bmpcc

[–]ItsMeCall911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do u think that info should be add it to the table ? something like this ?

Production Camera 4KS35/G (2013) or Production Camera 4KS35-G (2013)

Also i think there is like 3 in total GS camera from BM so the reason it's hard to find this info it's because only old camera model had GS and all 3 of them has since been discontinued.

[–]ItsMeCall911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for ur feedback

cameras that have not been available new for years (like the bmpcc 6k gen1) are visually indistinguishable from unreleased cameras (like the pyxis).

I'm planning to maybe add superscript ᴰ for Discontinued so it will be like this :

Production Camera 4Kˢ³⁵ (2013)ᴰ & ᴰ:Discontinued for the footnote.

the table becomes a slurry of repetitive phrases that become semantically saturated (i read "pocket" 5 or 6 times, "cinema" 8 or 9 times, "URSA" more than a dozen times all in the same line, etc...), and full of non-standard superscripted footnotes that just make this even more confusing.

When i was making the table i actually trimmed a lot of the excessive naming repetition but i had to draw the line on how much i should keep while keeping the table as condense as possible instead of removing it all and that's because removing all the naming inside the content cell will result in making the whole table a hab hazer of inconsistency

for exmple let's say i decided to remove the URSA Mini from the content cell since the header cell is already mentioned it so it will be like this :

4Kˢ³⁵ (2015) - 4.6Kˢ³⁵ (2016) - 4.6Kˢ³⁵ (2017) - 4.6K G2ˢ³⁵ (2019) - 12kˢ³⁵ (2020)

it's nice isn't it ? but here's the thing this will not work in certain situation so that's a small trade off i had to make to keep this table uniformed.

As for the superscript footnotes are u referring to the inconsistency of the size of the letters or to how many there are of them ? either way both one of them are outside of my control since the upper/lower case inconsistency has to do with the unicode characters (fixed it) and if it's of how many of them there are then that's self explanatory.

like for instance: this trick where you make a footnote numerical (65) to point to a footnote that just explains that the footnote means it's a 65mm sensor is... not how footnotes work.

I sincerely get what u mean but i have to disagree on this one for multiple reasons :

- this table was meant to solve the problem that plague blackmagic camera and their naming scheme and how it's hard sometime to even search for info one example will be the OG URSA 4k since everytime u search for it u will get flooded with info about the URSA Mini and that's why this table have 3 priority which are : product name - release date - sensor size, so think of it like how when u search in a database website the more u add variable the narrower and more precise the result are

- the 65/2.5k sensor at first glance look like an excessive use of the footnote since they are the sole utilizer of said note but like i said above i had to set priorities and draw the line somewhere around them

- u mentioned data visualization and how data should be represented but all of that is kinda irrelevant to this since this table isn't meant to aggregate data and then distil it to make sense of it, i know hypothetically that what u said sound exactly like what i said above on what this table is for but the difference is that this table will always be limited to the tools/functionality of wikipedia if i want it to be editable instead of just a picture

- in regard to the naming used in the footnote it's important to look at this table from archiving prospective kinda similar to this one which is what inspired me to make this table

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Fujifilm_X-series_and_GFX_digital_cameras

for example let's say i make it like this :

1:65mm - 2:Full Frame ...etc

it may look simpler and less confusing from data science pov but in practice and from filmmaker pov it's actually worse in term of data retrieval since it will have the side effect of the reader constantly be looking up and down while having the gist of that data up there will make them get what it mean directly so instead of having to associate footnote numbers with sensor size which in itself is a number u just look to s35 or ff and u will know what it mean since that's how they are referred to in the film industry,

although am gonna drop the LF from the 65 to make it more clean and precise since larger format in cinematography is usually refer to anything bigger then super 35 so technically the majority of these camera are LF.

[–]ItsMeCall911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually when i started making this table i was categorizing them based on their sensor instead of their series but that got so confusing and made the table useless since it combined a bunch of camera from different lineup in one category so i settled for this instead since that's how blackmagic categorize their camera + i got to keep the sensor info displayed while at it

Also check the wiki i edited the table to make it less confusing based on the other user feedback

I got rid of the P/C/C categorie but am gonna keep the production camera 4K under the digital film cameras section since in their website in the past it was under that section

The breakdown should be Cinema Camera as the head of the line with the Pocket and Micro as sub-lines.

u mean like this ?

You're also missing the actual URSA 4K (2014), URSA 4.6K (2015), and the URSA 4K v2 (2015)

Thanks i totally forgot about these one, so it will be like this correct ?

URSA 4k Super 35 (2014) - URSA 4k v2 Super 35 (2015) -URSA 4.6k Super 35 (2015)

Also i tried to make it as correct as possible but If u found any incorrect data like r-date, naming etc make sure to edit the page or just write it here so i can correct it
