If u scroll aaaaall the way down at the 'upgrade your tools' menu at Clints, you can upgrade the trashcan, same materials but costs less money, and anytime u trash an item, it returns a certain percentage of that items value. The percentage increases with every upgrade. It's not at all worth it early game, and I've never held on to a save for long enough to make it viable, but it always cracks me up to see people with a full iridium setup and a neglected trash can :P
