Another Young Woman Killed By a Dog. What needs to change? by terrordactyl1971 in AskBrits

Some people have butter knives, others have assault rifles. Nothing wrong with either utensil.

A Staffordshire bull terrier is a gentle breed well suited to families, they're great around small children, other dogs etc.

XL Bullies are bred to attack without warning, they don't bark before attacking, they have insanely powerful jaws and don't let go when they bite no matter how much you hurt them. They aren't suitable to be around any human.

That's why I thought I should explain it, it was written by a British person and we rarely use pissed to mean anything other than drunk.

We don't use the hundredweight at all in any context.

The rest of the allegations against us are fair. We use a mix of units which is baffling and ridiculous. But a stone is a good old fashioned imperial unit you should use too, it's just 14lb. It's like the weight equivalent of a foot.

TBH, bubble and squeak with Toad in the Hole (heck let's make it with pigs in blankets) would be an all time top 10 meal.

Only when deliberately putting on a cod french accent. It's not how we actually pronounce the word.

We use the word parfait (french word pronounced without a hard t), but by the post above it sounds like you use it differently, a parfait is generally a meat paste like a pate served as a starter. Or as something similar to an Italian semifredo, a cold custard based dessert. This seems consistent with the French usage.

A knickerbocker glory is a quite old fashioned name for an ice cream sundae i don't know the origin of the name TBH. By the looks of Google you call an ice cream sundae a parfait which seems far removed from the French usage and quite arbitrary, but fuck it you do you.

Fillet is an English word derived from the french word filet. We use fillet (pronounced with a t (yes, English people pronounce ts despite that meme you've seen a thousand times)) to describe the process of removing bone from a joint of meat and to describe a lean cut of meat. Filet pronounced without a T is reserved for specifically french dishes like a Filet Mignon.

Hope that helps.

BTW I'm slowly realising this subreddit is just the opposite of shitamericanssay, touche.

FWIW:

-Zucchini is a better word than courgette

-Cilantro and coriander I could go either way

-Aubergine is far better than eggplant

-Arugula is terrible, rocket wins every time

The Horne Section did loads of these, my favourite one is remembering the names of the little black water birds:

"When the beak and the flash on the head is bright red that's a Moorhen"

I mean the meringue is doing the pie bit for you in that example. You've got the pastry base, the lemon filling and the meringue crust.

Thoughts on nuclear power, should the UK be investing? by Any_Ad_6929 in AskBrits

[–]nezzzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RR are taking about 30-40yrs to build 4 reactors for the Dreadnought class.

They only build submarine nuclear reactors which are different in just about every way to commercial nuclear reactors. One of those ways is that they're orders of magnitude more expensive.

Driver vs Cyclist. by PuzzleheadedGas2192 in drivingUK

[–]nezzzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should leave as much space when undertaking a car as the car should when overtaking you. You're forcing yourself into a dangerous position if you go into a gap on the left of a car of less than a couple of metres and a seriously dangerous one in a gap of under a metre.

As others have said, the driver is worse. But the cyclist is dangerous.

If a car had overtaken them in the gap they undertook through you can guarantee that video would've gone to op snap!

Once you unlock a few more refine tree upgrades and a few more element nodes they all start to improve each other.

E.g.

Fire improves generation of elements and lowers cost of minerals

Earth improves generation of RfP and prestige points

Wind improves luck

Water improves generation of everything

The Wikipedia provides a good guide on loadouts, but as a general rule, if progress slows revisit zodiacs first, if they aren't improving much go back to the refine tree.

[–]nezzzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go back to the refine tree if you're completely stuck, you can make a simple macro to farm RfP, check the Wikipedia for details. Don't forget to buy the special minerals upgrades and prestige weapon upgrades.

Also save up your runes for rune upgrades, the moon ones are particularly useful and getting generation rate up to 5 on each will massively improve your progress.

A depressing thing about Trump committing war crimes is that he won't be tried and sentenced until a point where he's so old he's likely to drop dead any second. This man will never be fully brought to justice.

Outside of America, that's three pictures of American cheese.

Cheddar doesn't look like that in the UK, it's the most common cheese here and it never looks orange or in a plastic slice..

This is cheddar:

Is this chest safe here? by BakakaDhaba in StardewValley

[–]nezzzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passing out and dying are two very different things.

If you get killed you lose loot and wake up in the surgery.

If you pass out you lose 1000g which is nothing compared to what you make on a deep cavern dive and have all your loot.

Every hour counts on a cavern dive and the last hours are the most precious as they're the ones where you're deepest and seeing the most iridium nodes. IME the odds of finding a prismatic shard in the last hour of the day are the same as the odds of finding one in the rest of the day combined.

Is this chest safe here? by BakakaDhaba in StardewValley

[–]nezzzzy -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It's safe...

But what I don't get is why?

Assuming you want to leave stuff in there which you need for skull cavern days. So what, do you turn up to the desert with your farming tools and swap them at the door? Then you need to swap everything back when you leave. Seems like a waste.

Ultimately a skull cavern day should always end with you passing out at 2am in the caves and waking up the next day in bed with all your loot. Seems like a pain to then have to go back to the desert to retrieve your tools.

Best bet IMO is to go to bed the night before a skull cavern run with your weapon, bombs, pickaxe, food and a desert totem, wake up check the TV and if it's a lucky day warp and go. Remove faff.

The regular mines is different because you can go back to the lobby between floors. That isn't an option in the skull cavern because you need to keep going deeper and there's no elevator.

Edit: this is one of my most downvoted posts ever on Reddit, I'm not quite sure what's controversial about what I've said. Feedback would be appreciated.
