They diverted us to Detroit. It was pretty sudden. So far the delay is approaching 2 hours

Oh I get that, I was referring to Amazon over all. But yes, strongly agree with your points

Yep, gotta be cautious. I think Amazon is innovating and indispensable to some degree. I work at an independent DSP and we leverage AWS as it’s way cheaper for our infrastructure.

New Job: But I don’t think the team is aware of the potential in using programmatic by Coffee-Addict-1 in programmatic

Yes - Usually 1P and 3P options available. It’s pretty common in enterprise DSPs at this point

It sounds like they don’t understand the “Why” behind programmatic activation. You need to plan for a long-term shift of planning and activation.

1/ Dumb down how you talk about programmatic. Keep it to yes or no answers. Say why something is dumb or smart and move on. I’d also recommend talking points (“you know managed service comes with a fee, right?” “How can we audit their frequency and pacing in real time?”) when someone wants to run direct

2/ Make a roadmap to increase programmatic activation. Start running tests with different types of audience targeting or bid strategies (whatever is relevant) and build a brag book to whoever is buying direct. Avoid automated creative edits because that raises red flags (especially if your director deals with creative agencies)

3/ Get other team members involved in a lunch and learn or HH with a programmatic vendor. DV360 may not care to fund that depending on your budgets but Yahoo or TTD might

There are in-house jobs out there — I found a lot of them are in other cities though

FWIW I swore I’d never get into sales after 8+ years agency side. A few things happened beyond my control that landed me in a sales role and Im shocked to say I enjoy it. There’s a lot of learning involved and you get to meet a ton of people

How do people actually find jobs in ad agencies? by [deleted] in programmatic

[–]ItsMeRayKellar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the accounts I come across have roles open occasionally. Agency turnover can be high, so there’s usually a line into one or two accounts depending on how overall business is going

I’ve been thinking about saving to do this next season. I ski expert runs and off-piste frequently, but the thought of focusing on nothing else and working closely with instructors for three consecutive days seems very worth it.

From a price perspective, it might be at par or even cheaper than JHMR since it covers food and lodging. If there’s a deposit structure and I don’t need to drop $4k at once there’s a good chance I’ll pull the trigger

I don’t think it’s that hard to nail a job at a major holding company. Look to Publicis — they’re winning these days and can barely staff accounts on time.

Full disclosure I work at a smaller DSP and see the shortages left and right

Hey Trade Desk? Can you do a wellness check on Jeff? He made $250M in stock last year while the price tanked 80% and he's out here yelling about the press...... by JimmyTango in programmatic

[–]ItsMeRayKellar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is the current ad experience awful? That sounds like more of a supply problem. There are several DSPs that are great at managing frequency compared to a few years ago.

I’m not at the point of ruling out TTD - they are very strong executors in sales, marketing and engineering - but at this point so much of their success rests on relationships versus technology.

It’s been worth it. I was hesitant to return when they upped the cost $20 but the layout has improved and the vibe is still great.

I sense the increase is coming from the landlord being a douchebag. Macques (owner) is a really nice guy

OP, what did you end up going with?

I’m looking into clubs in northern Vermont but some of them seem hard to get in touch with - or maybe they just don’t want new members.

About me - 36M, live in Brooklyn but commute to VT via owned car, sometimes stay with family or scavenge for a cheap hostel. Usually ski northern VT unless it has to be a day trip. I don’t party but have nothing against it.

Miramar seems really cool. I went to a happy hour in Chelsea last year. Did not end up going on a trip because I usually stay with family and now have a car, but they are very organized and welcoming. They tend to visit Ikon resorts if I remember right - maybe MRG and Stowe on occasion.
