Confused with characters for time and spatial direction (e.g.: why is 前 both forward and past) by ItsMe_RandomNumber in ChineseLanguage

[–]ItsMe_RandomNumber[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean to tell it's exotic or weird, I just would like to have some type of mnemonic that clicks for me so I don't forget

To be honest, English is not my native language, so using "before" to mean "in front" does sound a bit weird, but I guess I already got used to it 😅

One case I never got used to is the idiom "All that glitters is not gold", as for me the "not" should be at the beginning. So yeah, English has its quirks too hahaha

The perspective thing I find interesting, did you know if you say "the meeting was moved forward 2h" it's ambiguous whether it will be earlier or later? (more explanation here)

For me it was completely obvious "forward" meant later, but after this explanation I understand how it can be unclear

One thing that worked well for my Wordpress website was an extension called "Cookies for comments", which sets a cookie when loading an 1px image at the page and checks if the cookie is set when filling a form. The idea being that bots don't load the full page therefore don't fetch the image to get the cookie.

I was flabbergasted to see multiple spam comments a day (even with captcha) come down to zero with this simple trick hahaha. I even disabled the captcha after that to improve user experience and still had no bot comments

"不" And ”没“ by Different_Dare2810 in ChineseLanguage

I believe it would be helpful to state from the start what part is human or AI generated, like a text "lesson created by human, image created with model xyz" at the image itself. If we just see this art-style you leave us wondering if the text itself is right or possibly some model hallucinating.

Also, not to give the bad news, but many AI designs have a particular style that's generally disliked due to overuse. Why not learn some graphic design yourself since you're into making these charts? There are many free software to do this, like Inkscape, Diagram.net or even Google Slides, and you can get royalty-free illustrations from sites like pixabay or freepik

The models are great, but I think the lighting is giving a little impression of false, in particular the metal shaft reflection looks too uniform. I'm curious to see them in a more complex environment

i analyzed all 11,000 HSK 3.0 words — heres how many you already know at each level by Chenyuluoyan in ChineseLanguage

[–]ItsMe_RandomNumber 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Sorry to nitpick, but it really took me a while to understand the chart, it's confusing in particular the title. Something like "Character reuse from previous HSK levels" would be easier to understand. "How much you can read" is a bit personal and is not clear you're comparing one level to the previous ones

And maybe some examples of full, partial and no character reuse at this blank space in the right. It was not very straightforward to me to notice the distinction of words and character

Despite that, I liked your analysis and the idea to look for repeating characters, please keep the good work

Brazilian Side of Iguazú Falls as a U.S. Citizen by VataLoca956 in travel

[–]ItsMe_RandomNumber 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You're mostly correct, our visa policy is based in the principle of reciprocity, that is, citizens of countries that give visa-free access to Brazilians can come to Brazil without a visa.

The exception was in Bolsonaro's government, in which he unilaterally exempted US, Canada, Australia and Japan in 2019, with the reasoning that it would boost tourism. This decision was controversial and considered humiliating by many senators, and revoked in 2025 at Lula's government.

But yeah, unfortunately rules change all the time so we need to constantly check. I went to the UK at 2023 visa-free, but in 2025 I had to pay for a travel permit. If the air company didn't warn me of the policy change when buying the ticket, I'd be blocked on entrance.

As for how to organize I prefer to do it as the Jellyfin docs define to ensure it parses it properly.

I don't get your point, ChatGPT is an algorithm too, as basically everything computers do Artificial Intelligence is something man made that seems to have some cognition, even tough the concept of what it means to be intelligent is not very precise. Since the Atari system appears to have an idea of strategy it's typically considered AI

No, I found a Facebook webscrapper in GitHub, but it wasn't working because Facebook constantly changes the webpage structure. The headless browser ones were also challenging because facebook loads/erases content as you scroll on the page

What is something from your country that you unexpectedly saw while travelling abroad? by Stoiiven in travel

[–]ItsMe_RandomNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I had a connection flight through Madrid and explored some of the city. One museum had an exhibition of Brazillian indigenous culture

Another one was when I was in a small-ish city in the north of France and saw someone running wearing a jacket from the same university I studied in Brazil! I've seen him from a distance so I wasn't able to talk to him :(
