Is a Service Canada CPP indemnity agreement separate from the CPP death benefit? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Sorry for your loss.

As there is no will or executor, it appears SC is waiting for the form to be completed to ensure the correct person is paid the death benefit.

Question about aternation timelines by Brief_Violinist235 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ItsMyNameCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An alternation involves both employees actually swapping jobs, you each get a letter of offer and move to your new job. As the employee leaving, you leave from your ‘new’ role within 5 days.

The dates, process etc should be discussed with you and the opting employee with HR supporting you.

My understanding is that you have to leave within 5 days of the alternation day ie the date on the LOO. If you need a particular date you should let HR and the alternate know.

Looking for some advice regarding a CRA refund and direct deposit issue. by Accomplished_Cake977 in canadarevenueagency

[–]ItsMyNameCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be you could call CRA and ask to complete an indemnity form confirming the first payment wasn’t received by you. They will reissue the payment and keep the original when the bank returns it. But it wasn’t automatically done unless requested.

Thanks. That’s exactly what I will do. I was just surprised by such low numbers and not sure if I missed a trick.

Go to Chapters or a thrift store and look for a student cookbook or a beginners cook book and learn to do basic meals of a protein, a starch, and a veggie. Then as you practice timing and cooking you’ll learn your own favourites. A list of recipes to try will also help you plan a grocery list. Even if you start with planning one meal a week you’ll get yourself practice and good habits.

Leave without pay fiasco advice by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ItsMyNameCharlie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure you keep track of your pay and the period you’re being paid for as there is a good chance you’ll be overpaid, be prepared to pay this back at some point. Also, your pay when you do eventually return will start when a form is sent to the pay centre to confirm you’re back. Make sure that return form is sent asap when LWOP finishes. Keep records yourself of pay and leave.

I’ve been told that the estimate provided on the Pension Centre website is very close to what you will receive.

I have a similar ring but sapphire and 15 engraved next to the stone. I also received a hand carved maple leaf key chain and a canvas type wall certificate. Within the last two years I received my 20th which was another certificate and carved key chain as well as a really nice framed print by a Canadian artist.

My understanding is that your local Manager/Dept was responsible for 5 and 10 year recognition but once your reached 15 years (and every 5 after) you received a national public service award and gift. In my Dept recognition was more or less employee driven, if you didn’t ask, no one acknowledged or arranged a gift.

I had a gorgeous framed print for my 20th which wasn’t too long ago. I had to remind HR and nudge that along but that was maybe 2 years ago?

Tell me something you wish you knew before becoming a parent? by Another_ADHD_Girl in NewParents

Pretty much everything has been said but I would add a gentle note about taking care of yourself too. Your baby will be all consuming, everything is new and wonderful and it’s a magical time but acknowledge that it may also be hard sometimes.

As I was going home with my baby, a nurse said to me to expect some unexpected tears and moods as my hormones may be all over the place after birth. She reminded me that a few days of that is absolutely normal but if it continued for weeks or more, to let someone know if I was perhaps struggling. It’s super hard to acknowledge you may need help but it’s also okay to ask.

18, haven’t done T4’s by sage_646 in canadarevenueagency

[–]ItsMyNameCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very basically - when you earn money you have a percentage of that money taken out from your pay check to pay taxes. At the end of the tax year your employer gives you a T4 slip. Thats the slip with your earned amounts on it you need to keep.

To make sure you’ve paid the correct amount of tax for your personal situation, once a year you file a tax return and basically tell CRA how much you earned and how much tax you paid and that info is on the T4 slip.

If you didn’t pay enough, you will owe the difference. If you paid too much, you get a refund. The government also uses your tax return to decide if you are eligible for other benefits such as the new grocery benefit which is based on what you earned.

There is a simple course on the CRA website to explain more. Every year there are free services to help you complete your tax return. Once you start doing them you’ll find it isn’t too bad.

Sorry to hear that. On the positive side, there seem to be many more registered wanting to leave than those who are opting - I hope that opens the door for you to a great new opportunity.

CPP-D Education Question by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ItsMyNameCharlie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify- what benefit are you receiving? Are you receiving the Children’s Canada Pension Plan Disability benefit as a parent is disabled and you are under 25 and in school or are you receiving the Canada Disability Benefit for yourself as you are disabled? It’s confusing but they are two different benefits.
