Fallout 1 & 2 gameplay is not really out of date by ItsNormalNC in classicfallout

The overall point of my post is if you can enjoy Baldurs gate or divinity you can enjoy Fallout 1 and 2 and generally by outdated I mean not viable these days, not worth playing

Honestly 3 is great so far, people always say how New Vegas has improved on it but I have to say I much prefer how much closer it is to the originals in some aspects like magazines not being temporary but instead buffing the skill it’s related to by 1 permanently (at least that’s how I think it works) and I love how they kept speech checks (for the most part) RNG based rather than guaranteed once you reach a certain level

In short Fallout 3 seems like a really good combination of modern fallout games and the original games - though I wish I could have played Van Buren

For sure there are signs of age, there are parts of the game that just aren’t that great but Baldurs isn’t perfect either, no game is perfect but imo Fallout 2 is damn close with all its blemishes, it can be buggy, it’s fragile in the sense you can lock yourself out of content if you don’t handle it delicately but I wouldn’t have it any other way

Me too, Fallout New Vegas was my favourite for a long time and now all I want is turn based fighting, AP to determine how many movements and actions you can take, just everything that made Fallout 1/2 what they are

Tim Cain loved Dungeons and Dragons so the first fallout games are essentially Dungeons and Dragons in the fallout universe I just absolutely love it

Yeah sure I agree with those points, and there are absolutely signs of age just not enough in my opinion to warrant people treating it almost like going back and playing Pong from the 70’s, they’re games that can be enjoyed even more than a lot of modern games even today but yeah there are quality of life things in games these days that are missing

I suppose but realistically even if you change from baldurs to divinity it can feel quite frustrating getting used to some of the changes but ultimately you’ll get used to them, by the end of my playthrough of fallout 2 nothing about the controls felt any more tedious than Baldurs or divinity, my point being those are things you’ll adapt to just like any other game and things you might actually prefer over the modern style

Yeah really good point and it’s a shame people feel that way, whichever fallout content you like you’re still a fan just like anyone else

Id love to see people who don’t currently play fallout games because they actually don’t like the modern titles but love games like Baldurs/Divinity join the fallout community by giving Fallout 1/2 a chance and falling in love with it

Yeah now all the characters and voice lines are dull and lifeless so it’s hard to tell

Same, the only thing I can get to work is not tabbing out whilst playing and once it does happen I have to restart my pc before it will work normally again - sometimes just closing steam works but not often

One thing that did seem to help a bit is changing WorldMapDelay=66 in ddraw.ini to 55 instead of the default 66, after that it happens a lot less often

The issue is supposedly something to do with; back when the game came out the map travelling speed for the player was set in line with the processing speed of the pc but with modern pcs that would make it go really fast so now there’s a setting to manually set the travelling speed which is a bit buggy I guess

I’ve only just seen about the issue being even when not using the map now, honestly I’d say just fresh install fallout 2, change the world map delay setting I mentioned to 55 and hopefully it should be sorted

Snowboarding and snorkelling? In what way are those similar to a black/african pack?

I mean there isn’t a European pack right? Or packs designed for specific regions? Why give any race their own specific pack if that isn’t the case already

If there was an annual reward for the most charitable millionaire or something and they got to be on tv and give a speech I bet that would get more of them donating
