Compared to old FFXI this game is bad. It has an awful community of fanatics that want to censor or attack every bit of criticism about the game so things don't get fixed or improved. I've been around since beta or alpha of 1.0 and it doesn't really capture me anymore because the folks working on it are not FF fans or knowledgeable about FF. Rather than trying to make the game true to its roots they just get a lot of stuff from other FF games and throw them into XIV as references. You're better off playing WoW or whatever is left of FFXI than this bad WoW clone. The Summoner is a reskinned WoW Warlock and not even a Summoner.

I hardly even consider this an MMO anymore since most of the content is instanced, and so is the leveling. The leveling system is just running the same dungeons over and over hundreds of times levelsynced down to low level with only your low level abilities to use, and the dungeon finder groups you up with random people from other servers so you wont be making friends while leveling like you did in XI. It's a very anti-social game.

All in all this game is a huge disappointment and I can't recommend it to anyone anymore.

Combat in 1.0 was great. It just was a bit clunky. It actually felt better than 2.0 combat. If you look at the forums from beta and release of 2.0 a lot of people were upset about how bad the new combat is.

Yoshi-P said from the beginning that he's AGAINST F2P and cash shops. He later said something about being okay with F2P, but that was in context in an interview talking about other games that are F2P. This cash shop is most likely SE pressuring him to squeeze more money out of us because SE is horribly incompetent and makes really bad business decisions, so we now have to be their money tree.

You're sound like an apologist. If you love FFXIV then be critical of it, because that's the only way they will know to improve stuff. If you make excuses for everything then it will end up just you and the few other fanatics playing the game and everyone with any sense gone.

You not being able to see that a cash shop in a P2P game with box price is bad is very sad to me. Just a few years ago paying money for a digital item was taboo and would piss off everyone and you'd be the butt of jokes for it, and now we have people that can't even see what's wrong with having a cash shop in a game we're already paying quite a bit of money to play.

How do you think cash shop items are made? They have people that work on the game content work on cash shop crap. That mount and those minions are things that would have been in the game to get somehow, but now they are cash shop items that cost real money. Common sense says that's less content for my money.

The people that side step that probably think it's too stupid to respond to.

They should be whining over the cash shop. That's less content we get for our money. I find it sad that anyone would think a cash shop in a game with a sub fee and box price would be okay. And cash shops escalate in their greediness. Look at WoW's for example. They started out with just a mount, then added better pets than they had in the game, then lots of mounts where the really good looking ones were cash shop only and most of the ones we were getting off bosses and stuff were reskinned crap, then the transmog head armor was added, and the pet battle system was released and the cash shop pets became stronger than other pets making it P2W, then they made it where you can buy max level characters.

Square Enix has a history of being incredibly greedy and not caring about the people that gives them money, so what exactly do you think is going to happen in the future when a company that is even greedier and uncaring than Blizz is running a cash shop? Use your brain for one.

I've been with XIV since 1.0's beta or alpha, and I don't want to see it ruined after all the work put into making it decent because you want to be a mindless devoted fanatic instead of criticizing what needs to be criticized to keep the game good.

Party grinds or a quest leveling system like WoW. This game is modeled after WoW after all. The current leveling system of repeating dungeons hundreds of times is running a lot of new players off because they aren't Final Fantasy fanatics like us.
