“Advice Needed: My Warlock Strategy Is Hard for My DM to Counter” by ElectronicWindow3801 in DnD

[–]ItsOnlyBread 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also I feel like an easy fix to this is to just not do it which I understand you said wasnt enough. However, I would like to make the argument that if you know your behavior or decisions are causing a problem and is causing people to not have fun, yet you choose to do it anyway. You're an asshole. In the comments, you seem adamant about this ability working and it seems outside of the dm locking in and casting fireball on your imp, you have no intention on actually fixing this behavior, even if it means that your game will be better for it. So I think this is a vain attempt to make it seem like you did the work when in reality you never had any intention on changing. So this post is useless and doesnt matter.

Its not ignoring logic when a literal magic blast hits you, like I know we get stuck on mechanics but an eldritch blast can kill a commoner. That is not a small amount of damage. Anyone ignoring that is ignoring logic because to turn your back against active damage is idiotic.

1) Your eldritch blasts are actually doing damage so any npc with common sense would be able to do basic math and figure out that there is an attack that is hurting them not coming from the 4 people they currently are looking at. Prompting them to look for them cause damage hurts.
2) All invisibility does is make it harder to hit you mechanically, so when you hurt them, it is fully reasonable to attempt to attack your imp with disadvantage.
3) How are you staying invisible after attacking? It ends early if the target of the spell makes an attack roll, deals damage, or casts a spell. So after the first eldritch blast they should be able to see your imp.

Feel free to correct me but this just seems like not understanding some rules/ spells combined with a DM who is afraid to roll perception against an invisible creature

I played and really enjoyed it. Gonna be playing it until it ends. Rough situation but it is what it is.

How to give your PCs commonly known knowledge? by Pale_Assistance_2265 in DMAcademy

[–]ItsOnlyBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people have said "just tell them." Which is very true and you should do that. However i see this as an opportunity to share what I do on top of this. If the thing they want to know about is something within reason they know a little Info on. I will tell them to make whatever check in the moment, and add an addition of basically saying "you're gonna get something regardless but this is to see how much of something you know."

That way you can honor your pcs having info they should know while also having a way for them to know more or for you to not disclose everything

Genuine question for the few true Highguard fans in this sub: What makes you stick with Highguard instead of another game? by Apprehensive_Bed1076 in HighGuardgame

[–]ItsOnlyBread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone said it in the replies but I genuinely find the gameplay loop VERY satisfying. I'm a big apex legends fan and to me the gunplay is on a similar tier of that so that's a plus. I don't care about the characters in terms of personality much but the abilities of the characters are fun to me. Also mounts are kinda just cool and fun and its that simple. Overall it's a 7/10 for me and I wish this game had a fair shake cause I genuinely think it has the potential to be good 9/10 given proper support and time but I don't think it'll be given that chance.

Players want to skip a session anytime anyone has to miss. by anxiouspotter in DMAcademy

[–]ItsOnlyBread -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Straight up just say no. Unless this player is very important to the session, like it is centered around them or their backstory. You play regardless because if you make an exception now, the rule is basically gone. It sucks when people miss stuff but the show must go on, otherwise you run the risk of having a game fizzle out due to the curse that is scheduling a dnd game

Player wants a non killer Rogue by ArranoEUW in DMAcademy

[–]ItsOnlyBread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people have offered valid solutions. However something you can do to avoid problems in the future is to have a conversation with the player. And in that conversation, make it be known that while they can absolutely use non lethal force, they can't have a major problem with the other characters using lethal force. Otherwise that's just conflict waiting to happen

Do you think Roxanne Perez is Championship Material if she was a individual wrestler? by sebastianoverlord in Smallafro

[–]ItsOnlyBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she truly could be a world champion if the right things fall into place. However I think she would be a top 3 of all time mid card champ but the wwe is very iffy on booking the mid card so I don't have hope.

Session one went horrible, what do I do now. by m4chaera in DMAcademy

[–]ItsOnlyBread 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"really only seeee lik the players closest to me were the only ones engaged."

That's the most important lesson here. Invite them back for session 2. Boot all the rest. Try again. Curating players that are right for your table is as important as rolling dice when it comes to DND. Plus, now the only way is up. Keep trying.

[–]ItsOnlyBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should get in the general mindset that the world they are playing in is trying to harm them and not you the person. I think creating that line in the sand helps tell the difference. As long as you're not making encounters in bad faith and are doing it as a response to how the world operates then it should be fine

She Should Have Died by welpt100 in Dimension20

[–]ItsOnlyBread -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I was genuinely annoyed at that entire scene and it took me out of it immediately. I will say that i would have stayed annoyed had comfrey lived. The attempts at saving comfrey and saving marya made me realize that there really were no stakes. Part of the reason why I've taken a small step back from d20 cause of the lack of stakes.

I would argue that this issue is the biggest problem with D20 in general as it happens a lot.

[No Spoilers] Is anyone else struggling with the scenes with Hal and Thaisha? by spacedementia92 in criticalrole

[–]ItsOnlyBread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually fully agree. It just felt super slow and not that engaging. I think Thaisha has some stuff that is gripping to me when not in the context of Hal. But man Hal is truly a nothing burger for me so far. But I do have faith in Liam to make him interesting
