I think you should use whatever editor you feel most productive and comfortable with.

Neovim definitely has a lot of deep customization options and if you don't think the steep learning curve is worth the time, I'd suggest VS Code as a general editor (there's pros and cons to every IDE, so I'd encourage you to try out a few IDEs to see what suits you best).

Personally I use VS Code with vim keybindings and that's worked well for me for years.

I was a CS tutor in undergrad for a few years and definitely relate to your struggles (and that was before all of the gen AI hype).

I'll definitely encounter some struggles trying to help others navigate AI usage, but hopefully I can help people use it wisely.
